Janet (Cooke) Wichmann departed this life on Sunday, February 8 at MeritCare Palliative Care unit in Fargo. Janet was born to William and Lola (Nelson) Cooke on November 22, 1934 in Fargo, ND. She was active in the church youth-group, swimming and was a life-guard at the Island Park swimming pool. She graduated from Fargo Central High School in 1952 and worked for Northwestern Bell as an office administrator for three years. She married Leo Charles Wichmann at Gethsemane Cathedral in Fargo on November 19, 1955. After farming in the Leonard, ND area, the family moved to Seattle, WA in 1966 where Leo was recruited by Boeing, Inc. Janet worked for The Bon Marche? for 18 years before retiring. After a divorce she lived in Oregon and wintered in Arizona for several years before returning to Seattle. She has resided in Fargo since 1998 where she came to care for her mother. She belonged to the Red Hat Society, enjoyed bowling, crewel embroidery, needlework and has always been an avid reader. Janet is survived by her brother: Lon (Mary Jo) Cooke of Fargo, four children: Jodi (Derald) Betterman of Seattle, WA Lauria Wichmann (Craig Pellegrino) of Seattle, WA, Dane Wichmann of Beaverton, OR, Leigh (Daniel) Dewberry of Puyallup, WA, five grandchildren: Megan Wichmann, Niceala Wichmann, Ruby Wichmann, Nathan Dewberry, Kaitlyn Dewberry and one great grandchild: Mackenzie Wichmann. She is preceded in death by her parents. The Funeral Service will be held at Gethsemane Episcopal Cathedral on Saturday February 14, 2009 at 11:00 AM. Visitation will be at the Cathedral one hour prior to the service. A reception will be held in the church hall after the funeral. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be directed to Hospice of the Red River Valley. Arrangements entrusted to Boulger Funeral Home, Fargo, ND.
