Janice J. Bruns

Janice Bruns, Fargo, ND passed away on May 28, 2015 in the Palliative Care Unit of Sanford Health, Fargo. Janice Joan Chukker was born on Cinco de Mayo, May 5, 1935 in Charles City, Iowa to Gerald and Marjorie (Marsh) Chukker. The family moved to Worthington, MN in 1941. Janice was a 1953 graduate of Worthington High School, and then went on to graduate from Worthington Junior College. She was private secretary to the treasurer of Munsingwear, Inc., Minneapolis, MN until 1957. On June 23, 1956 Janice and Elmer Bruns were united in marriage at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Worthington, MN. The Bruns family moved to Fargo, ND to further Elmer’s education. In 1967 Janice became secretary at Fargo South High School. She was a charter member of Nativity Church, Fargo, ND where she was active in various ministries which included Vice President of the Women’s’ Guild, taught Confraternity of Christian Doctrine to public school students, was a Eucharistic minister, and active in Cursillo. Janice attended Minnesota State University-Moorhead, and was a member of Delta Pi Delta Sorority. She was active in the North Dakota State Democratic NPL Party, serving two terms on the ND Governor’s State Policy Committee. Janice was a past Vice-Chairwoman of Fargo Precinct 51, and a delegate to numerous Dem/NPL Women Plus. She was in her element when entertaining and preparing favorite recipes for family and friends; family being uppermost in her life. Over the years, a number of neighborhood children as well as friends of Janice’s children and grandchildren addressed her as “Grandma” and shared many entertaining times with her.  Her grandchildren, great grandchildren and these others were “the apples of her eye.”  Janice enjoyed retirement with her husband; summers spent at West McDonald Lake, Dent, MN, and winters in Alamo, Texas, and travels both foreign and domestic. Everyone who knew her would attest that life was never dull when Janice was involved! Survivors include her husband Elmer, son Jeffrey (Cynthia Rick) Bruns, Fargo, daughter Jolyn (David) Krabbenhoft, Fargo, and daughter Julie (Steven) Sillers, Moorhead MN. Six grandchildren: Bryce Krabbenhoft, Fargo, BreAnne (Brennan) Fagan, Lawrence, KS, Khera (Taylor) Houston, Kasson, MN, Jeffrey Jr (J.J) Fargo, Brittney Bruns, Fargo, and Erin Sillers, Moorhead. Great-grandchildren Mya and Liam Houston, Kasson, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents. The Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, June 1, 2015 at 2:30 P.M. in Nativity Catholic Church, Fargo, ND with visitation starting at 1:30 P.M. Visitation will be held from 5-7:00 P.M. at Boulger Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. and rosary to follow. Interment will be in Holy Cross North Cemetery, Fargo.
