Jay’s Memorial Service will be live streamed below starting at 11:30 A.M. Friday:

Jay was born in 1959 to Ronald & LaMae Braaten in Moorhead, MN. He graduated from Kindred High School in 1977. Jay was self employed most of this life owning & operating rental property.

Jay married Lori Askelson and together they had two children, Andrew & Jordan.

Jay enjoyed traveling, NASCAR, carpentry, and raising his kids. He loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Jay is survived by his mother LaMae Iwen. His siblings Becky Wolf, Jeff (Deanna) Iwen, Todd Iwen, and Lisa Jacobs. His son Andrew (Vanessa) Braaten and his daughter Jordan (Tyler) Crouse. His nephew Reier Goettel. His grandchildren Kylee, Alexa, Oliver, Greta, and Berkleigh. His great nephew Reier Jr.

Jay is preceded in death by his father, Ronald Braaten, step father Gene Iwen, his sister Pamela Morris, and his grandparents.

There will be a funeral November 20th, 2020 at 12pm at Boulger Funeral Home and it will be live streamed on the Boulger Website.

  1. Sorry to hear about Jay’s passing. Used to enjoy our nights of pinochle with him & will miss seeing his smiling face & visiting with him on the patio at Tailgators. Such a nice guy.

  6. Jay we will miss you. As a friend for many years you were in our wedding over 40 years ago. you were our traveling companion for the past 3 years. Steve and I will miss you terribly. Condolences to your family, Jordy and Andy and Lamae who was our neighbor for over 25 years.
