Jerry Westphal

Jerry passed away on Thursday, September 4, 2008 at MeritCare Hospital in Fargo at the age of 64. Jerry was born on August 5, 1944, the son of Albert and Doris (Spratt) Westphal in Langdon, ND. He grew up on the family farm near Clyde, ND. Jerry received his education graduating from Clyde High School in 1962. He proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1962 until his discharge1964. He returned to North Dakota and attended Lake Region Junior College in Devils Lake. He later farmed with his family near Clyde. In 1974, Jerry moved to Hillsboro and began working at the American Crystal Sugar Beet Plant. He was united in marriage to Shirley Anderson on December 23, 1983 in Munich, ND. They made their home in Hillsboro and he continued working at American Crystal until retiring due to health reasons in 2002. He was a grateful recipient of a kidney from his sister, Kathy, in 2003. Jerry is survived by his wife, Shirley of Hillsboro; his step son, Jim (Kari) Anderson of Zeeland, MI; grandsons, Brian and Jacob Anderson; his siblings, Dale (Nancy) Westphal of Savage, MN; Wayne (Beverly) Westphal of West Fargo, ND; Judy Westphal of Ely, NV; and Kathy (Randy) Haugeberg of Minot, ND; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
