Joan Wall

Joan Mae (Emerson) Wall, 89, of Fargo, ND passed away Friday, Jan. 17, 2020 at Bethany on 42 in Fargo, ND. Joan was born October 20th, 1930 to Selmer and Thelma Emerson in Bottineau ND. She graduated from Minot State and taught school in several rural schools including Carbury and Bottineau. She was united in marriage to John Wall also of Bottineau on September 20th, 1958. They moved to Fargo where they raised their two daughters, Janessa and Jeanine. Joan loved telling stories about growing up on a farm in the Turtle Mountains of North Dakota with her twin sister Joyce and younger siblings Patty and Connie. She enjoyed working outside with her dad Selmer as well as playing piano and organ, listening to country music and watching old television shows. What she especially loved was being with her family. Being an identical twin to her sister Joyce, it was natural for her nieces and their families to see her as their “second mom and Grandma”. Not only did they look alike but Joan loved and cared for all of them like they were her own and they loved her right back as she often got to care for them especially the ones that lived in Fargo. After the arrival of her two grandsons, Christopher and Andrew, she would keep busy by taking them to appointments, piano lessons, making meals for them and just loving them. Joan is survived by John her husband of 61 years, daughter Janessa (Joe) Delvo and their children Christopher Delvo and Andrew (Samantha) Delvo and daughter Jeanine (Alan) Hebert of Bismarck ND as well as many furry grandbabies-Oakley-Penny and Enzo and her great grand fur baby Hank. Sisters Patricia (Ivan) Erickson of Kent WA, Connie (Larry) Pederson of Valley City ND, sister in law Ione Skarpohl of Bottineau ND and brother in law Kenny Wall of New Hope, MN, and Aunt Adeline Nielsen, Bottineau. She was preceded in death by her parents, her twin sister Joyce Lystad and her husband Willie, as well as many other brother and sister in laws. A Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday January 24, 2020 with visitation starting one-hour prior at Hope Lutheran Church North Campus Fargo. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Boulger Funeral Home. To sign the online guestbook, go to www.boulgerfuneralhome.com.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. I’m sorry for the loss of Joan. She was my 3rd grade teacher in the country school close to the farm she grew up on and close to the one we had just moved to. My older sister Doreen would have been in 5th grade. I was probably a problem student for her, kind of a smarty pants! She and my aunt Grace Larson had some teaching experiences together. I now live once again in that same farm near where she grew up. I wish their lovely house was still standing.

  2. John, Janessa and the rest of the family,

My sincere condolences on the death of your wife and mother. May she rest in peace.

  3. Sorry to hear of Joan’s passing. We got to know John & Joan when we moved to Edgewood Village. We’re right across the street from them. Joan was such a polite & caring person. Sorry we won’t be at Joan’s funeral as we’re out of town on vacation. Cherish the many memories of your loved one, no one can take those from you. Prayers to the Wall family during this difficult time.

  4. Janessa and family, So sorry for your loss….She was a sweet soul, the few times we met her, she was always smiling and a happy person and nice to chat with!

    Rob and Marlene

  5. Connie and family: My sympathy to all of you at this time of your loss. Thank goodness for the gift of memory; Joan will only be a thought away. God’s Peace and Love.

  6. John so sorry to hear of your loss. I will never forget all of the great visits the three of us had at Hornbachers. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Craig Lemieux
