joel holtgard
Joel passed away on Monday, July 19, 2021 at his home in West Fargo, ND, at the age of 67, after an 18 month battle with cancer. Joel was born on October 5, 1953, the son of Wilfred and Leona (Marine) Holtgard, in Fargo, ND. He grew up in rural Moorhead, MN where he graduated from Moorhead State Campus High School. He later attended Moorhead Technical College where he studied Diesel Mechanics and Therm-O-King to learn refrigeration on trucks. Joel was married to Camille Campbell in 1974 and they later divorced. Throughout the years, Joel spent most of his life working with cars – he was a very talented mechanic. He co-owned Northern Auto Sports for many years and also built race cars and enjoyed driving them. He was known for his love of the BMW 2002 series and took great pride in having the only BMW on the track at the time. Joel won many races at the Brainerd International Raceway – racing was his passion. After closing his business, he went on to work for Imports Plus, later Valley Imports, until his retirement. Joel was a passionate Minnesota Gophers and Minnesota Vikings fan and wherever he was – he was the life of the party. Joel is survived by his daughter, Danielle (Corey) Kutzer of Wahpeton, ND – and their children, Gabrielle, Luke, and Keaton; his son, Trevor Holtgard of West Fargo, ND; his step-daughters – Destinee (Dylan) Ensrude, Savannah Spreeman, and Desiree Short; his mother, Leona Holtgard; and his brother, Dave (Barb) Holtgard of Fargo, ND; his niece, Kristina; and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Wilfred. Celebration of Life Service: 6:30 PM Monday, July 26, 2021 at Boulger Funeral Home in Fargo – with visitation beginning at 4 PM. A generous guy

  4. Joel, Thanks for your friendship and your trust in me to be on your pit crew at BIR for a few of your races. Your driving style and skill at the wheel of your ‘ought2’ were something to see to believe.
May your memory live on through your family and may you find your rest and peace in the next life for eternity……

  5. Joel you were like a second father to me ever since the age of 9. The countless hours I spent making a mess in your shop pulling my cars apart with all the confidence in the world you would make sure it got put back together and running right. I will miss you greatly and think of you often. Rest in peace.

  6. To the Holtgard family- I am so sorry to hear of your sad loss. You guys are in my thoughts and prayers during this tough time. Joel you were always such an easy person to be around and just such a down to earth great guy! I always will remember Joel as wanting to have a good time and sometimes that meant the BeeGees came on and Joel’s dance moves came out! You will be deeply missed by all! RIP

  7. Love and condolences to all the family. He made a meaningful impact to us. He was a great man and will be missed so much.

  8. If you could not smile when Joel was around there is something not right with the world. (: He made a Paul Boese look alike doll for me—it is a long story!!!

  9. Danielle, Trevor and family,
Words are never easy as times like this. I just wanted to let you know I am very sorry to hear about Joel. He was a great guy and he will be missed. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen your dad, but whenever I think about him I just see a big smile and the fun loving guy! I’m glad I was fortunate enough to have known him.
Keeping your family in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
