John J. Exner, 51, Fargo passed away Sunday, August 23, 2020 in Downer’s Grove, Illinois from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. John was born June 27, 1969 in Fremont, Nebraska to Terry Wheelock and Charlotte (Gemar) Roney where he was baptized in the Christian faith. He attended school in Lamoure and Oakes, ND. He spent a lot of time involved in the construction industry and recently started working as an over the road heavy haul truck driver. He met Jennifer Erickson in 2008 and on June 18, 2016 Jen and John were married. They made their home in Fargo. John enjoyed spending time with family. John’s passion was the outdoors, he loved to go primitive and load up his canoe and go down the river camping and fishing. John loved woodworking, and always made sure to finish any job he started, he had a passion for art including sketching portraits, nature, and wildlife. He is survived by his wife Jennifer, Fargo, ND; father, Terry Wheelock, Omaha, NE; step-father, Chuck Roney, Oakes, ND; children, Cassandra Exner, Rapid City, SD, Joshua (Jamiee) Exner, Rapid City, SD; sister, Tina (Tim) Deitemeyer, Fargo, ND; step-daughters, Justice Erickson, West Fargo, ND, Shiann Erickson, Fargo, ND; step-siblings, Jana (Dave) Hankey, Park River, ND, Brian Roney, Cottage Grove, MN, Brad (Brenda) Roney, Argyle, TX, Jill (Darin) Karlgaard, Litchville, ND; 2 grandchildren, Kiyann and Bryson, and many loved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by mother, Charlotte, and adoptive father, Dennis Exner. Visitation will be from 9:30-11 a.m., followed by a funeral at 11 a.m., Monday, Aug. 31, at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church in Fargo. Masks are recommended.
