John "Jack" Hoffman

John passed away on Friday, February 8, 2008 at the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Fargo at the age of 77 after a short battle with cancer. John C. was born on August 6, 1930 in Rolette, ND, the son of Clayton and Grace (Lee) Hoffman. He grew up in this area and lived on the family farm near Rolla. John proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corp from October of 1951 until his discharge in October of 1953. He was united in marriage to Virginia Roberge on April 19, 1954 in Thorne, ND. They farmed for two years before moving to California where he worked as a service repairman for Sears for ten years. They moved back to Minot, ND where he studied to be a diesel mechanic. They moved to Rolette and he attended school in Bismarck for auto mechanics. He later worked for the Chevy garage and the John Deere Implement in Rolla as a diesel mechanic. He also worked at the John Deere dealership in Bottineau for a time before moving back to California for six years where he worked at Bobcat. They moved back to North Dakota where he retired and kept a part time job at McNeilus Steel as a custodian. John is survived by his six daughters and one son, Evelyn (Robert) Moore of Elgin, MN; Esther (Jim) Paul of Kindred, ND; Rebecca (Jeff) McNany of Phoenix, AZ; Peggy (David) Latter of Canadian, OK; Jacqueline (Guy) Hendrickson of West Fargo, ND; Johnnie of Forest Falls, CA; and Jeanette Hoffman of West Fargo, ND; 7 grandchildren; 6 step grandchildren; and 7 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his two sisters and two brothers, Ruth Klebe of Yelm, WA; Hazel Klein of St. John, ND; Arthur (Sherla) Hoffman of Rolette, ND; Lawrence (Shirley) Hoffman of Rolla, ND; his sister in law, Judy Hoffman of Cando, ND; and several nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia; daughter, Susan; his parents; his sisters, Mary Prouty and Harriet Hoffman; and his brother, William Hoffman.
