John McDonough was born in Pennsylvania to Leonard and Annabelle (Reese) McDonough on January 3, 1931. John left school after his sophomore year at German Township. He enlisted at age 17 in the Air Force. Basic Training at Lackland AF Base in TX. 3 years in Germany, came back to the states and spent 3 years in MI and met and married Grace Beck at the chapel at Selfridge Air Force Base, Mt. Clemens, MI on 12.20.52. Sent to Korea and spent one year. Returned to Willow Run Air Force Station near Belleview, MI until 1959 when he was sent to Mississippi for one year for electronics schooling. Then the whole family moved to France and was there for 3 years. Returned to March Air Force Base near Riverside, CA. Finished his H.S. degree even though he had passed his GED. Was there 3 years then moved to Spain for one and a half years then to England for 1 ½ years. Retired from the Air Force and moved to Lancaster, MN and lived there 1 year. Worked for the Greyhound Bus Company in Pembina, ND. Moved to Warren, MN in 1971and began working for Midwestern Gas Transmission Company (Now known as Viking Gas then to Excel (NSP). He worked at the gas pumping station Maintenance and operation in Warren for 25 years. Retiring in 1995. Moved to Fargo in 2000. Member of the DAV. Member of Bethel Evangelical Free Church. John is survived by his wife, Grace; children: Cynthia Hope Levenhagen (Craig) Roseau, MN, Robin Elizabeth McDonough, Fargo, ND, Debra Lynne McDonough, Sabin, MN, Aline Marie McDonough, Sabin, MN, Krystal Van Buren (Ryan) Fargo, ND, Jennifer Leigh Hunteman, Moorhead, MN; siblings: Edwina Lilley, Mentor, OH, Wanetta Rose “Rose” Furano, Allison, PA, Patricia Diane “Pat” Harrison (John) Brook Park, OH, and David McDonough, Norwalk, OH;7 grandchildren; 1 step grandchild; 3 great grandchildren. John was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Gwendolyn Oakes, and Annabelle Myers
