John Francis McNamee, 85, Bismarck, formerly Hillsboro, ND, passed away on Friday, March 27, 2015 at Missouri Slope Care Center, Bismarck. He was born on September 10, 1929 in Fargo, ND to E. Douglas and Cordula (Geray) McNamee. He grew up in Hillsboro graduating from Hillsboro High School. Following graduation, John enlisted in the US Navy and fought in the Korean War. He served in the Pacific and the Atlantic on three different ships. The last ship he was stationed on with his brother Virgil. In October 1954, he was honorably discharged and returned to North Dakota. John attended business school and then began his career in bookkeeping and business management. He worked in Hillsboro for a short time before moving to South St. Paul where he was employed at Farmer’s Union for several years. John returned to North Dakota and worked at several local Farmer’s Union co-ops until his retirement. John was very active in the Knights of Columbus, the Right to Life Association and the Traill County Historical Society. He enjoyed doing genealogy research and had compiled an extensive family history. Spending time with family, especially his nieces and nephews, was extremely important to John. He never missed one of their milestones, whether it be a baptism, wedding or first communion, no matter how far he had to travel. He is survived by his siblings, Virgil McNamee, Hillsboro; Robert McNamee, Mahnomen, MN; Patricia Sperling, Portland, OR; Michael (Debby) McNamee, Bismarck; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law, Albert Sperling; two sisters-in-law, Delores McNamee and Kathleen McNamee.
