Joseph A. Harbeke, 93, Page, North Dakota, passed away Monday, August 17, 2009, at Manorcare in Fargo. Joseph A. Harbeke was born to Joseph J. and Margaret (Worth) Harbeke on the family farm at Page on November 14, 1915. He grew up on the family farm and attended country school. In third grade, he started school in Page and graduated from high school there. He started farming with his family at age 13, retiring in his 80’s. Joseph A. Harbeke and Rosemary Melander were married in Hunter, ND, in 1946. She preceded him in death in 1982. Joseph and Dorothy Hess were married in Fargo in 1986. Joe was active in many organizations, including 40 years on the Lake Township Board, 25 years on the Page Lumber Board, 40 years on the Elevator Board, 20 years on the Community Health Association Board, 10 years on the Page School Board, 33 years as a director on the Page State Bank Board, 20 years on the St. James Catholic Church Council, 30 years on the Cemetery Board, 8 years on the Cass County Crop Improvement Board, 15 years on the Soil Conservation Board, 26 years on the Maple River Water Resource District Board, 10 years on the Cass County Joint Water Resource District Board, and 6 years on the FHA Advisory Board. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; children, Joseph (Carol), Page; Robert (Peggy), Gilbert, AZ; Ruth (James) Eberle, Dazey, ND; Carol (Richard) Lewis, West Fargo, ND; grandchildren, Brian Harbeke, Natalie Harbeke, Heather Prouty, Brandon Harbeke and Amber Newman, and great grandchild, Megan Prouty. The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 20, 2009, at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Page. There will be a Prayer Service in the Church at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday. Visitation will be in the church from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday and one hour before the funeral in the church. Arrangements entrusted to Boulger Funeral Home.
