Joseph ?Joe? Paper, 98, of Fargo, passed away on Saturday, December 11, 2004, surrounded by his family at Manor Care Nursing Home, Fargo, ND. Joe Paper, born on March 9, 1906 in Fargo, ND was the eldest of 10 children. He attended public school until the age of 13 when he began working at the family business, Fargo Iron & Metal Co to help support his family. When his father passed away he became president and remained there until he retired in 2003, at the age of 97. On December 6, 1953, Joe married Freda Nemer in Minneapolis, MN. They moved to Fargo along with her two children, Bonita and Steve. Joe was deeply involved in the Jewish community as a charter member and president of the Fargo Hebrew Congregation. As an Orthodox Jew Joe prayed three times a day and walked to synagogue every Saturday morning. Joe also served in the Masonic Oriental Band and was a member of Shiloh Lodge 1, Fargo, ND, for over 75 years. Joe was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He enjoyed reading, politics, and sports. Joe is survived by his wife, Freda; and his two children: Bonita Gould, San Dimas, CA; Steve Paper (Rita), Fargo, ND; 6 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; brothers, Abe Paper, Colorado Springs, CO; and Harry Paper (Delores), San Antonio, TX; sister, Sara Platt, Fargo, ND; and numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Torah Academy, 2800 Joppa Avenue, St. Louis Park, MN 55416.
