Joe Sitter, age 97, passed away on Thursday, June 10, 2004, at Villa Maria Nursing Home in Fargo.
Joe was born on October 22, 1906, the son of Joseph and Katherine (Fiechert) Sitter, in McHenry County, North Dakota. He grew up in this area, attended country school, and was baptized and confirmed at St. Anselm Catholic Church in Fulda, North Dakota. Joe was united in marriage to Barbara Welk in 1928. They made their home in the Berwick area where they began raising their family. In 1941, they moved to Towner, North Dakota, where he began working for the Great Northern Railway (Burlington Northern). He was transferred to Rolette in 1954, and later to Rugby, North Dakota, in the early 1960’s. Joe worked as a machine operator, a track inspector, and as a foreman prior to his retirement. Barbara passed away in 1995 and Joe moved to Fargo and has lived at Riverview Place since that time.
Joe is survived by his children, Leo (Delores) Sitter of Fargo; Jerome (Margot) Sitter of Fairfax, Virginia; and Sr. Jean Sitter RSM of Omaha, Nebraska; 5 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Barbara; his granddaughter, Barbara Ann; and his siblings, Nick, Martina Burckhard, Frank, Lena Black, Johanna Welk, Katie Volk, Helen Iverson, and Tony.
VISITATION: 6-7 PM Sunday, June 13, 2004, at Riverview Place Chapel in Fargo – and also one hour prior to the funeral on Monday
PRAYER SERVICE: 7 PM Sunday at Riverview Place Chapel
FUNERAL MASS: 10 AM Monday at Riverview Place Chapel
BURIAL: 1 PM Tuesday, June 15, 2004, at Little Flower Catholic Cemetery in Rugby
