Katherine Yanez

February 27, 1923 - September 18, 2010

Katherine Yanez, 87, of Los Angeles, California, passed away Saturday, September 19, 2010 at Bethany Homes in Fargo.

Katherine was born February 27, 1923 to Tillie Krakaur and Tony Yanez in Los Angeles, California.  Kay grew up in Los Angeles and went to school through 8th grade.  Kay was a single mother and worked for many years as a photography developer and as a production seamstress.  She enjoyed dancing in dance contests and spending time with her life long friends, Jean Morgan and Dorthy Perez.

Her greatest joy was enjoying her grandchildren.  She was a frequent flier, traveling from Los Angeles to Oregon, Arizona, and North Dakota just to be with her grandchildren.  She will be remembered for sharing her love of nature and the outdoors, her joy for music and passion for art with her grandchildren.

She was a compassionate, loving person with great faith.  She shared that faith and fellowship with over a hundred godchildren.  She was known for teaching, mentoring and celebrating the sacraments with them, entrusting all of them to the care of the patron saint, St. Anthony.  To her honor almost all of her godchildren have Anthony or Antoinette as their middle name.

In 2005 traveling became increasingly difficult for Kay.  She left Los Angeles to be closer to her son Richard (Chico) and his family in Moorhead, Minnesota.  She enjoyed being more active with her grandchildren, seeing them through the activities they chose to be in:  scouting, theater, and choir.  She enjoyed going to mass, sharing recipes, sewing and having “girl time” with her daughter-in-law, Maria.  She enjoyed talking, listening, and dancing to old music and watching old movies with her son, Richard.

Kay is survived by her son, Richard Chico (Maria) Miranda Moorhead, Minnesota; daughter, Diane Roselli Columbia, Maryland; sister-in-law, Martha Cerda, Los Angeles, California; grandchildren, Ricky Anthony Miranda, Los Angeles, California, Mateo Omar Oliva and Christopher Anthony Oliva Moorhead, Minnesota.

Kay is preceded in death by her parents, brother, Gilbert Cerda, her sisters, Blanch Ochoa, and Alice Eleguezbal, and her granddaughter, Jaci De Ann Hibbert.
