Kathleen Mae Fjelde was born on May 5th 1927 in Minneapolis, MN, to Arthur and Edna (Holland) Foster. Kathleen was raised in Warroad, MN, and Detroit Lakes Minnesota where she was schooled. After high school she moved to Fargo where she met her future husband, Bruce C. Fjelde.
Kathleen was very active in her church, be it in Fargo, Naples, FL, or Detroit Lakes, MN. She served in every capacity that the church would allow a women to partake in. She was dubbed Friday’s Child by Father Maurice Mueller for her work at the Nativity rectory in Fargo. She made beer cheese soup for Father Mueller every Friday afternoon with the beer being supplied by the good Father himself. During the Kennedy/Nixon presidential campaign, Nixon made an appearance in Fargo which Kay and Bruce attended. Nixon stopped, turned around and came back to say to her, “I love your hat.”
Kay collected people, she had friends everywhere of all shape, size, and color. She loved playing bridge and pinochle and hid her winnings every where only to lose them when her children discovered the hiding places. She was a fantastic cook and loved doing it. She made holidays magical and was like a kid herself when it came to gifts. As a mother she was an absolute gas. She is already missed.
Kathleen was under the care of hospice and died at home on Friday the 3rd of October. She was surrounded by her family whom were everything to her.
She is survived by her husband Bruce C. Fjelde of Fargo, ND;her children, Bruce J. Fjelde (Fran), Fargo, ND, Mark B. Fjelde (Vicky), Indianapolis, IN and Kristen M. Fjelde, Fargo, ND. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Erik and Valli Fjelde, Anna Fjelde, Amy (Boggess), Mark Neils and Andrea Fjelde all of Indianapolis, IN. She is also survived by her sister Nancy Boyle of California.
Special thanks to her nieces Bess and Teresa, and “Aunt Connie” Graber.
