Kelly Frank Allen, 50, of Moorhead, MN, died at home December 1st, 2013, in the loving arms of his wife Kim and son Casey.

Kelly was born on December 27th, 1962 in Prince George, British Columbia, Canada to Benjamin Robinson Allen and Carol Lorraine Berglund–Allen.  Kelly grew up in Phoenix, Arizona and graduated from Thunderbird High School.  Growing up with the Arizona desert across the street, Kelly came to love the outdoors and enjoyed many adventures with motorcycles, off-road sand rails, and Baja bugs; camping in northern Arizona was one of his favorites.  While in high school, Kelly lettered all 4 years in swim and in his senior year set the school record in the 50 freestyle.

After graduating high school in 1980 Kelly was employed by Home Depot for many years which led him into becoming an electrician.  He left Arizona for Fargo and joined the IBEW Local 1426 apprenticeship program.  He settled in Sabin, Minnesota and in 1997 he met and married his love, Kim, and Casey, his son, was soon born.  He was in his last year of the electrician’s program trying to pass his Journeyman exam when seizures led to the discovery of cancer in his frontal lobe.  He successfully completed extensive surgery and chemo but was disabled after that initial therapy and continued to fight cancer for the next 10 years.

Kelly was preceded in death by his mother Carol Berglund-Allen.  He is survived by his wife Kim A. Allen and son Casey Allen of Moorhead; daughter Kiara (V.J. ) Larson of Moorhead; son Jake (Katie) of Detroit Lakes; father Benjamin (Beverly) Allen of Prescott Valley, Arizona; brother Keith (Lisa) Allen of Phoenix, Arizona; step-grandchildren Jacob and Trevor Larson; niece/nephew Abigail and Elijah Allen.
