Kirk Holmes

Kirk Dennis Holmes, 63, Moorhead, MN, passed away on June 9, 2013 at his home. He was born on June 4, 1950 to Squire and Donna (Schenkey) Holmes in Alexandria, MN.
He grew up in Middle River, MN graduating from Middle River High School in 1968. Kirk then attended Moorhead State College, graduating in 1972 with a degree in Physical Education. After college, he joined the Navy and served as a Lieutenant from 1972 until 1975.
Kirk worked as a Nodak Mutual Insurance Claims Representative for 30 years, retiring in 2007.
On November 14, 1981 he married Rose Stasch at Nativity Catholic Church in Fargo, ND. They lived in Fargo until 2006 when they moved to their lake home on East Spirit Lake. They returned to the area in 2008, making their home in Moorhead.
In his spare time, Kirk loved to golf, watch baseball, and spend time with his friends. He was a devoted husband and a very caring person, willing to do anything for anybody. His generosity will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Rose; brothers, Rick and Larry (Loye); and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Steve.

Janesville WII first met Kirk at a vacation Bible Camp on some lake in the early 1960’s. He was a very gregarious and upbeat person.
We reconnected at Moorhead State College in 1968. He was still the same good person then. Our Northwest Minnesota
group of guys hung out together and had many memorable and happy times. We took sophomoric behavior to new levels.
When I go home to visit my folks in Warren, MN
we usually go to our hunting cabin south of Roseau. We pass by Kirk’s boyhood home in Middle River. I often think of him most likely playing baseball on the field adjacent to their property. He was probably much better at basketball with his height.
He was a great person and a joy to be around. My condolensces to his family and friends.

I was involved with at MSUM.
we both were in the insurance business in Fargo.
The last time I saw him was in the periodical reading area at the Fargo Public Library.

I always told Kirk, I never had a best friend, but I had found mine in him. I will miss my one, true best friend to talk with. We did everything together. I will dearly miss you. Remember, my nightly hug and kiss.

Farmington Hills MII was blessed to at one time have called Kirk my brother in law, and he was a brother to me in every way. His kindness and sweetness were unsurpassed. And he had the greatest sense of humor. One time when he fell asleep in my living room, I painted his toenails a pale gray, and he didn’t notice for about a week. But when he did, he knew precisely who the culprit was. Rose, I never got to meet you, but I know from my brief contacts with Kirk that he was happy and in love. My prayers are with the entire family. Please know that I grieve along with you, and celebrate his beautiful life with you as well.

I am saddened to hear of the loss of such a wonderful man. Kirk interviewed me for my position at Nodak Mutual back in 2001. From the moment I met Kirk, I could see he was an outgoing, friendly, and caring person. Kirk was a joy to work with and always had a smile on his face. When everyone was stressed over storm season or workloads he was always there to tell us a joke and lighten the mood. His memory will live on forever in the hearts of those of us who knew and worked with him. Rose, you are in my daily prayers and if there is anything I can ever do please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Fargo Kirk was the nicest guy you could find. When I first started working at Nodak, I had to fill work as receptionist in the claims area one Friday and did not have a clue what I was supposed to do. Kirk was always there to help me out. He even brought me back some cookies after he went home for lunch. Thank you Rose, they were wonderful cookies. Kirk always had a smile for everyone. We visited one day for break about lefsa. He really missed homemade lefsa. Us Norweigens need to stick together. Lefsa forever!
Kirk will be missed.

I was so sorry to learn of Kirk’s death. He was such a kind and friendly man. I can still see him ambling across the yard to visit a bit. He had such a wonderful smile and laugh! We are blessed that our paths crossed and to have known him. Please wrap yourself in wonderful memories.
