Kurtis “Kurt” Chaput, 59, of Fargo, N.D., died Saturday May 2nd at Sanford Medical Center.
Kurt was born on July 12th, 1960 to Del and Evelyn (Ekberg) Chaput in Landon, N.D. They lived in Rock Lake, N.D. for just a couple years, before they moved to Cooperstown, N.D. He grew up in Cooperstown, where he participated in 4H, boy-scouts and raising various show animals, such as sheep, rabbits and steer. He enjoyed spending time with friends, sometimes making some questionable decisions. He graduated in 1978 from Cooperstown High School. After high school, he moved to Fargo where he started work at Fargo Tank and Ryder Transport. Later he met Tamra “Tammy” Beyers and started at ABC Seamless. On July 15th, 1983 they were united in marriage. They had two children, Cory and CynDee. He worked for ABC Seamless for 20+ years and the last 14 years of his life he worked at Aggregate Industries. Kurt liked spending time at the lake with friends and family. He was always tinkering, busy entertaining everyone that would stop by to visit, whether it was friends, neighbors or family, and watching the races in his well known, racing themed garage. He also enjoyed spending time hunting at The Ranch with lifelong friends. Most of all, “Grandpa” was his favorite name. His grandkids were his whole world and he truly loved spending time with them. He would often invite them over for sleepovers on the weekends, that included, cartoons, too many snacks and staying up late.
Kurt is survived by his two children, Cory (Nicole) Chaput of Fargo, N.D., and CynDee (Richard) Smith of Fargo, N.D.; four grandchildren, Khloe and Jaxon Smith, and Carter and Carson Chaput; his parents, Del and Evelyn Chaput of Cooperstown, N.D; two siblings, Kim (Jerry) Hook of Fargo, and Lisa (Pete) Nordtvedt of Walcott, N.D. Many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Tammy, and sister, Susan Chaput.
A memorial gathering will be held at the Holy Cross Cemetery South at a later date. Arrangements by Boulger Funeral Home and Celebration of Life Center in Fargo.

My deepest heartfelt sympathy goes out to Kurt’s family. He was such a good father, grandfather, son, brother and friend. Our friend and neighbor. We will miss him so much. He was always there to lend a helping hand. He was always the first to wish you a happy birthday, merry Christmas or let you know he was thinking of you. If you walked by his house, you were always invited in to visit, have something to drink and always had enough food on his grill to feed whoever stopped by. He was generous and kind and showed that to all that he cared about. I will miss hearing his grandchildren laughing as they played in his yard, talking to him about our gardens and sitting around his firepit. Rest in peace, my friend. Fly with the angels and continue to watch over your children and grandchildren from above. Truly missed and never forgotten. Cheers buddy!

Dear Cory & CynDee, Ski & I met your mom & dad when they moved in by us in 1982. We became good friends & raised our kids together thru the years. It was so hard to see your mom go & now your dad. There are many great memories & stories to remember & tell. Some times when I was in the kitchen I would hear your dad say, bring a glass to the fence. So I would go out, raise my glass, & enjoy whatever his POISON was at that moment! Many good times, laughs & years were had with our special friends & neighbors, Tammy & Kurt. They are together again & that is wonderful.You & your families along with Kurts family are in my thoughts & prayers. He is a guy that is going to be forever missed by so many. So sorry for your loss. My Dad, the late David Askegard, worked with “Cheppie” for many years at ABC Seamless. He was always so good to call my Dad during my Dads cancer journey. Those ABC guys were such a tight knit crew, what a great bunch of guys. My condolences.
Cory, Nichole, Richard, CynDee and families, words cannot express the sorrow I feel for all of you. I am so glad we experienced the joy of being all together on the 4th last year. I was so sorry to hear of your Dad’s passing. He was my best friend when we were in sixth grade in Cooperstown. We spent many hours riding around on mini bikes with Keith Bednar back in those days. Our time together was short, my family moved and we lost touch for many years. I happened to meet your grandfather several years ago and he mentioned that your Dad was living in Fargo. More recently your Dad called me and we got back in touch. I learned that we had been living just a few blocks apart for many years. I can’t begin to tell you what a wonder time we had reminiscing and catching up. Your Dad was a wonderful, kind man and I will miss him.
This is so sad. I have no words. He was a great guy. Friends are friends forever. Thank you for always being a good friend.`.
We are heartbroken. Kurt was always thoughtful and diligent about keeping in touch. Kurt has definitely gone too soon. We will miss him.

I met Curt on my walks with my dog,if he was out ,he’d engage in friendly conversation., eventually I called him my friend.He was kind,understanding and loved his life.Thankyou for you kind words.RIP

We were so saddened after reading of Kurt’s passing and want to extend our sympathy to you and all of your family. I hadn’t seen Kurt for many years, but after reading his obituary, I felt like not that long a time had passed since I last saw him. Peace to each of you.
So shocked and saddened to hear of Kurt’s passing. As a classmate of Kurt I remember him well, he was a funny, mischievous guy that liked to have fun with the teachers. Ran into him when I worked for Lafarge while unloading product at Aggregate Industries and we caught up, he hadn’t changed much, still had that grin that I remembered and lots of stories… I know he will be missed by all who knew him! My Sympathies to all his family.
