Laurel Watson

June 23, 1953 - November 07, 2018

Laurel Watson, 65, of Harwood, North Dakota passed away peacefully on November 7, 2018, at Essentia Hospital in Fargo, North Dakota with her family by her side.

Laurel Ann Gronland was born on June 23, 1953, in Fargo, to Gordon and Evelyn Gronland. She graduated from Fargo North High School in 1971 and briefly attended Interstate Business College. On March 14, 1975, Laurel married Richard “Dick” Watson at Peace Lutheran Church in Fargo. They made their home in Harwood. They were blessed with one daughter, Samantha, who was the light of Laurel’s life, her pride and joy, and her very best friend.

Over the years, Laurel was employed in various secretarial positions at several businesses in Fargo. She worked for Pioneer Mutual Life Insurance Company for 19 years as a graphic artist, support services coordinator, and new business specialist. It was there that she formed many lasting friendships. When Pioneer Mutual closed in 2009, Laurel began working as a service representative for Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota, where she was employed until her retirement in July 2015. Following her retirement, she worked for a short time as a paraprofessional at Eastwood Elementary School.

Those who were blessed to know Laurel were witnesses to her incredible strength and tireless work ethic. She had an immense love for her family, and her greatest moments were spent with them. Laurel enjoyed reading, cross-stitching, and spending summers at the family lake cabin on Lake Maud.

Laurel is survived by her loving husband, Dick, of Harwood; daughter, Samantha (Grant) Christian, of Harwood; siblings, Paula (Dennis) Graff, of Detroit Lakes, MN; Holly LaChance (Andy Ferguson), of Lake Jackson, TX; and Gregory (Cathy) Gronland, of Alexandria, MN; and numerous nieces and nephews. Also surviving are her faithful golden retriever, Josie; her “grandpuppy,” Finley; and her pesky but loyal cats. Laurel was preceded in death by her parents, Gordon and Evelyn Gronland; and her niece, Tara Kellar.

This saddens us so much! When I think of Laurel she always was smiling or laughing. She was so kind and it was so obvious how she loved and adored Dick, Sammy, and her fur babies.
