In thanksgiving to God for the life of Lavyna ?Johnnie? Humphrey February 26, 1924 ? May 10, 2007 Johnnie (Lavyna) Humphrey, 83, died peacefully in the presence of her family on Thursday, May 10, 2007 at Bethany Homes, Fargo, ND. Lavyna Lenore Johnson was born February 26, 1924 to Dewey and Lutie (Curry) Johnson at Bethesda Hospital in Crookston, MN. She grew up in Climax, MN, attended school and graduated from Climax High School in 1942. She attended Interstate Business College in Fargo, ND, and graduated with a certificate in business accounting the following year. She was first employed by Warner Insurance, and later by Standard Oil in Fargo. On October 6, 1942, Johnnie and Joesph Blake Hunphrey were married at Climax Lutheran Church, Climax, MN. They made their home and raised their children, Michael and Marcia on the family farm, west of Grandin, ND. During that time, Johnnie enjoyed preparing lunches and dinners for the family and farm workers. She was a member of the Mother?s Club of the Grandin Public School; enjoyed her membership in Grandin Homemakers, Birthday, and Couples Bridge clubs; contributed and participated in civic and community activities; served as an Elder of First Presbyterian Church, Grandin, ND and active in various mission?s of the church. After her children completed high school, Johnnie joined the Cargill Corporate Elevator in Grandin, ND and enjoyed 18 years of employment as a financial administrative assistant. Blake and Johnnie relocated to Fargo, ND in 1997 and Johnnie continued her involment in her Grandin-based birthday and bridge clubs and enjoyed her new affiliations with PEO- Chapter, AE and at First Presbyterian Church, Fargo, she served as a board member for the Presbyterian Women, and became a member of the March-December Fellowship Circle in 1998 and co-chaired the fellowship circle and served as a board member for Presbyterian Women (PW) from 2000-2005. Johnnie is survived by her husband Blake, son Michael (Pennie) both of Fargo; daughter Marcia of West Fargo; very special granddaughters, Keely Humphrey, Detriot Lakes, MN, and Casey Humphrey, Roseville, MN; brother-in-law, Ralph Marti, Mesa, AZ; her niece, Maribeth (Tom) Plankers, Moorhead, MN; great-nephew, Blake Plankers and great niece, Elizabeth Plankers, both of Moorhead, MN. Through marriage, she is survived by Ken (Helen) Humphrey, Wilsonville, OR; Tom (Joan) Humphrey, Houston, TX; Budd (Ona) Humphrey, Salem, OR and nieces, Karen Johnson Eisenhardt, Shari Johnson Bremer; nephews, Gary Johnson, Jay Johnson, Brian Johnson, David Humphrey, Janet Humphrey Harbert, Susan Humphrey, Victoria Humphrey, Thomas Humphrey, Kathryn Humphrey, Mark Humphrey, Marina Humphrey, and many great nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents Dewey and Lutie Johnson, Climax, MN; aunts, Adel and Viola Johnson, Eau Claire, WI; uncle, Orlando Johnson, Anaheim, CA; sister, Weltha Marti, Lake Benton, MN; parents-in-law, Bernard and Lena Humphrey; Grandin, ND; and sister and brother-in-law, Audrey and Herb Johnson, Arthur, ND; and great-niece, Leah Eisenhardt, Fargo, ND. A 5:00 p.m. visitation on Monday, May 14 will be held at Boulger Funeral Home, 123 South 10th Street, Fargo, ND, and will be followed by a 7:00 p.m. Celebration of Life Prayer Service. The Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, May 15, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 650 2nd Avenue North in Fargo, ND. The family expresses gratitude for the many gestures of kindness extended by Johnnie?s church family and staff, friends and relatives, Hospice of the Red River Valley, and the caring staff at Bethany Homes. Memorials are preferred to: First Presbyterian Church of Fargo; First Presbyterian Church of Grandin, ND; PEO-Chapter AE; Hospice of the Red River Valley; Bethany Homes, or a charity of choice.
