Leland ?John? Rapp, 81, Fargo, ND died on Sunday, March 23 at his home. John was born on Easter Sunday April 4, 1926 in Forbes, ND to John and Marie Rapp. He grew up and attended school in Lidgerwood, ND. John enlisted in the Army and served during WWII in Japan and the South Pacific. John married Bernice Korte in 1948 and together they had three children, Mitch, Geri Lynn and Kiara. John married Beverly Anderson in 1959 and together they raised John?s family. John married Mari (Bush) Vaughan in 1982 and together they raised Mari?s daughter, Jennifer. John was in the grocery business all his adult life. He started at Vic?s Market in Fargo, managed several Piggly Wiggly stores for Nash Finch for over 20 years and in 1982 moved to Eureka, SD where he and Mari owned and operated Rapps Jack & Jill. They moved back to Fargo in 1988. John was a life member of the Moose Lodge in Fargo and received the highest honor of Pilgrim Degree. He was also a life member of the VFW, Fargo JC?s, and El Zagal Shrine. He is survived by his wife, Mari; step-daughter, Jennifer (Ronny) Olson of Wolverton, MN; son, Mitch (Cindy) Rapp of Fargo, ND; daughter, Kiara (Kevin) Schroeder of Madison, MN; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sister, Christine Stevens of Vancouver, WA; and his constant companion ?Jackpot?. He was preceded in death by his daughter Geri Lynn Mortenson; parents; four brothers; and a great-grandson Jonah Lehfeldt. It was John?s wish that he be gifted to the Deeded Body Program at the University of North Dakota. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
