Leo E. LaChance

Leo E. LaChance, 88, Moorhead, MN passed away Wednesday, March 13, 2019 at Lilac Homes, Moorhead. Leo was born March 1, 1931 in Topsham, Maine to Emery and Edwedge (Pouillot) LaChance. He attended school in Brunswick, Maine graduating from Bath High School. He did his undergraduate work at the University of Maine where he was active in ROTC, graduating with a degree in Zoology. He went to graduate school at North Caroline State University where he pursued his graduate degree in Insect Genetics. He was united in marriage to Joan Favreau on August 6, 1955 in Brunswick, Maine. He worked for the United States Department of Agriculture at 2 posts, one in New York State and one in Texas before moving to Fargo in 1963. He worked at the Metabolism and Radiation research lab at NDSU, retiring in 1985 before taking a position with the United Nations International Atomic Energy Agency. He was active in US Figure skating where he was not only a participant but also a judge where he spent close to 30+ years spending many volunteer hours. He loved spending time at his lake cabin on Big Cormorant with his family. He is survived by his children; Lois A. LaChance, Moorhead, MN, Marc LaChance, Roanoke, Virginia, Matthew (Trevor Burroughs) LaChance, Alexandria, Virginia; 2 grandchildren, Joe (Maria) LaChance, Courtney LaChance. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Joan in 2007. Funeral Mass: 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, March 19, 2019 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Fargo with visitation starting at 9:00 A.M. Burial: Holy Cross Cemetery North, Fargo.
