Leonard R. Lesmeister, 73, Fargo, passed away peacefully Wednesday, November 11, 2009 at the Veterans Administration Hospital, Fargo following a courageous battle with cancer. Leonard was born to Louis and Eva Lesmeister in Harvey, ND on September 21, 1936. He grew up and attended school in Harvey. While in high school he was an active participant in football and basketball. Following graduation in 1954 Loenard entered the Army during the Korean War and served until 1956 when he came to Fargo to attend NDSU. He was a proud member of Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity and enjoyed participating in various campus activities. Leonard and Janet K. Long were married din St. Mels Catholic Church, Rhame, ND on June 23, 1961. Leonard returned to NDSU and was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science in 1964. He worked as a heavy equipment operator primarily in road construction in Fargo, Grand Forks, Dickinson, and Bowman County ND. We will remember Leonard as a humble man who loved football, the outdoors, animals and good cooking. He had a sharp and witty sense of humor that will be missed. Leonard is survived by his former spouse, Janet K. Feist; his children, Amy (Ed) Streeper, Osage, MN, Peggy (Karl) Kamrud, Wildwood, MO, and Brad (Heidi) Lesmeister, Pryor Lake, MN’ his siblings, Sharon (Jack) Kost, Martin, ND, Judy (Jim) Dawson, Watertown, MN, Renae (Roger) Specht, Battle Lake, MN, Barry (Mary) Lesmeister, Bismarck, ND, and Mary Lee (Scott) Lucas, Minot, ND; and his grandchildren, Chloe and Calvin Streeper, Kathryn, Kari, and Kristopher Kamrud, and Madison, Megan, and Landon Lesmeister; and many nieces and nephews. Leonard was preceded in death by his parents and nephew, Casey Lucas. The funeral will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Boulger Funeral Home, Fargo.
