Leonard passed away on Tuesday, June 16, 2015 at his home in Hillsboro, surrounded by his loving family, under the care of Hospice of the Red River, after a courageous battle with cancer. Leonard Thompson was born on May 21, 1946 in Mayville, ND, the son of Ralph and Cecil (Cossette) Thompson of Blanchard, ND. He grew up on a farm near Blanchard and attended Blanchard School, Greenfield School, and Hunter Schools. Leonard was united in marriage to Annella Terfehr of Wolverton, MN at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Kent, MN on September 6, 1969. Together they made their home on a farm near Blanchard, moving in to Blanchard a few years later. Leonard farmed on the family farm with his father and brother, Roger until 1991. He later worked on a farm for Bill Erbstoesser and drove semi for Otto Bertsch Trucking, Ken Nelson, and Mike Munter until his retirement in 2014. In 2011, Leonard and Nell moved into Hillsboro where they made they home since. Leonard enjoyed spending his days with family, hunting and fishing. Leonard is survived by his loving wife, Nell of Hillsboro; his daughter Nikki (Jesse) Nissen of Bismarck, ND; his son, Kyle (fiancée Ashley Olson of Battle Lake, MN) Thompson of Hillsboro; his two grandchildren – Jace and Hannah Nissen; his two brothers – LeRoy Thompson of Washington State and Roger Thompson of Hillsboro; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; his sisters – Charlene Christianson and Kathy Thompson; sisters-in-law – Ann Thompson and Pat Thompson; and in-laws – Lawrence and Agnes Terfehr. FUNERAL MASS: 10 AM Monday, June 22, 2015 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Hillsboro PRAYER SERVICE: 7 PM Sunday, June 21, 2015 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Hillsboro VISITATION: 5-7 PM Sunday, June 21, 2015 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Hillsboro – and also one hour prior to the service in the church on Monday BURIAL: St. Rose of Lima Catholic Cemetery in Hillsboro

    We were neighbors in our younger years. Our families would visit on sunday’s. So we would play and just fool around.
