Loren Gordon

Loren Gordon, age 60 Borup, MN, died at MeritCare Hospital surrounded by his family on Friday, February 24, 2006 after a brief battle with cancer. Loren James Gordon was born to James A. and Phyllis A. (Johnson) Gordon on February 22, 1946 in Ada, MN. He graduated from Borup High School in 1946 and attended Wahpeton State School of Science in Diesel Mechanics while also helping out on the family farm. He attended Dakota Business College for one year and then returned to farming. He married Pamela Spaeth on March 16, 1968 in Ada, MN at the Congregational Church. He entered the National Guard and later became a member of the Army Reserves. He worked at Standard Oil Farm Service Center in Ada for a time. In 1971 he began farming with his father and brother, Steve. He eventually began farming on his own and continued in that endeavor until 1991. He drove school bus for the Ada-Borup School District for 11 years. He spent a few years working for area farmers before taking a position at Fevig Oil and Propane in 1998. He continued there until the end of January when health problems prohibited him from working. He was baptized and confirmed at Winchester Lutheran in Borup, MN and remained an active member throughout his life. He was a charter member of the Borup Lions Club. He was a member of the City Council, Rescue Squad, and Volunteer Fire Department. He was a leader in the OB Jolly 4-H Club and his interest in horses led him to be involved in a couple of different saddle clubs. He enjoyed fishing year round although he seemed to eat more than he ever caught and loved the time spent on Big Pine Lake at Golden Eagle Campground near Perham, MN. First and foremost, his family meant everything and he seemed happiest when he was spending time with Pam, his girls, and his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Pam, Borup, MN; daughters: Jennifer Myers (Rob) Borup, MN, Kimberly Johnson (Lance) Ada, MN, Melissa Gordon, Burnsville, MN; grandchildren: Taylor, Jordan, and Paige Myers, Zoe and Ivy Johnson, and Mia Gordon; his mother, Phyllis Gordon, Ada, MN; brother: Steven Gordon Detroit Lakes, MN; sister: Patricia ?Patty? Steen (Craig) Halstad, MN; many aunts, uncles, brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and friends. He is preceded by his father, James Gordon and his grandparents. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, March 2, 2006 at 11:00 am at Grace Lutheran Church in Ada, MN. Visitation will be on Wednesday, March 1, 2006 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Winchester Lutheran Church in Borup, MN with a Prayer Service at 6:00 pm.
