Loretta Thies, 89, Fargo, died Thursday, July 24, 2003, in Bethany Homes, Fargo. Loretta Glaser was born December 21, 1913, in Geddes, SD. She attended Geddes High School, graduating in 1931. She attended Notre Dame College in Mitchell, SD, where she received her teaching certificate. She then taught elementary school in the Geddes area. On June 14, 1933, she married Henry Thies in Lake Andes, SD. They left South Dakota in 1937 and moved to the Fargo/Moorhead area. They moved to West Fargo, ND, in 1941, where they lived for 18 years. They moved to Rapid City, SD, in 1959, later moving to Hawley, MN. They farmed there until 1979 when they returned to Fargo. He died in 1979. Loretta was a charter member of the St. Andrews Catholic Church in Hawley, and was an active circle member. While living in Fargo, she was a member of the Daughters of Pioneers at Bonanzaville. She was also a member of Dakota Hospital Auxilary, doing volunteer work until losing her eyesight at age 79. She enjoyed traveling, visiting family and friends in 50 different states. Her favorite times were spent with her family around her visiting, having a meal or playing cards. She will be greatly missed by her large family and many friends. She is survived by five sons, Dean (Katy) Thies, Lake Park, MN, Bill (Linda) Thies, Fargo, Dale (Diane) Thies, Lees Summit, MO, Tom (Marianne) Thies, Jefferson City, MO, and Cal (Doris) Thies, Fargo; two daughters, Phyllis (Joe) Jacobson, West Fargo, and Gale (Larry) Keane, Kennewick, WA; three brothers, William Glasser, Bakersfield, CA, Francis Glasser, Sugerland, TX, and Marvin Glasser, Carson, IA; 26 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, one sister, and one brother. Funeral Mass will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Church of the Nativity, Fargo. Visitation will be held Monday from 5-7 p.m. in Boulger Funeral Home, Fargo, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will also be held in the church one hour prior to services on Tuesday.
