Lorna Gauthier

lorna gauthier
Lorna Jane Gauthier, 87, Fargo, ND went to her heavenly home on Monday, May 20, 2019 at Eventide in Fargo surrounded by her loving family. She was born on September 1, 1931 in Hazen, ND to Emmanuel and Emelia (Richter) Mittelsteadt. She grew up on the family farm near Hazen with 8 brothers and sisters. Lorna graduated from Hazen High School in 1948 and then taught at the country school for one year. On June 18, 1950 Lorna married Art Lang in Hazen. The couple was married until he died in the Korean War in 1951. She met George Gauthier in Hazen while he was working as an electrician. They moved to Minneapolis where they were married on November 8, 1952. The couple moved to Moorhead, MN where they made their home and raised their four children. Lorna was a very loving, devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was an extremely talented self-taught seamstress who loved to sew, quilt and crochet. Her family will continue to enjoy some of her beautiful creations for many years to come. She enjoyed spending time outdoors fishing, golfing and gardening. Playing cards, especially bridge and cribbage, was one of her favorite hobbies. Playing bridge on Wednesdays at the Hjemkomst Center with her dear friends took priority over everything else and she rarely missed a Wednesday. Her children were also a top priority and without fail, whatever their need, she was there for them. Lorna loved to laugh, had a fun sense of humor, and either hosted or attended parties whenever there was an opportunity. Wedding dances were especially fun for her as she grew up dancing with her brothers and loved a good polka, two step or waltz. She is survived by her children, Rose Ann (Paul) Jensen, Cedar Rapids, IA; Mary (Tim) Baumgart, Toad Lake, MN; Christine (Dave) Gauthier, Moorhead, MN; grandchildren, Amy Gormally and Emilio Baumgart; great-grandchildren, Cayden, Taylor, and Brooklyn Huggins; brother, Ken (Sylvia) Mittelsteadt; and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by husbands, Art Lang and George Gauthier; her son, Steve; and seven siblings. There will be a celebration of life service at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, May 28, 2019 at Boulger Funeral Home and Celebration of Life Center, Fargo with a visitation one hour prior. Memorials preferred to Parkinson’s Research (NETPR), American Cancer Society, Make A Wish, ND or charity of your choice.

Guestbook

  1. On behalf of Eventide Fargo, we send our condolences and sympathies to Lorna’s family. It was a privilege and a joy to be with her for the last (almost) 2 years. She is already missed at Eventide, but not forgotten.

  2. Chris I am so sorry to hear about your Mom. I enjoyed reading about her enjoying a polka or a waltz. I grew up in the Lehr-Wishek area, very close to Hazen, and my Dad played that kind of music on his accordion at wedding dances. Now you can picture her dancing in heaven. Hugs and prayers to you and your family.

  3. I’m glad I had the opportunity to meet your mom last Christmas and be her cribbage partner. Thinking of your family.

  4. Heartfelt condolences to the Gauthier family. I have many fond (and some not so fond when Steve and I got in trouble), of your mom. For sure, we had the best times growing up in South Moorhead. She was a very special lady. We truly appreciate her kindness in helping our mom through her tough times after the passing of our father. Take care and know that your mother was one of the best!

  5. Mary, Tim, and Emilio, Your Mom was such a special lady. She was always warm, friendly and enjoyed being with others. Her love of fishing stands out as she was always interested in getting out in the boat and fishing her heart out. We will always remember with a warm heart your Mom. Our heart goes out to you all!

  6. MY.. Sweet lady Rose Ann of over 37 years and her sweet sister Chris…
What a proud Lady your MOM was of all your accomplishments and successes and YOU BEING YOU. I remember great visit back in the late 90’s and you could tell by her voice, twinkle in her eye and the sparkle in her smile how she love you so and cherished you dearly.
Every word was kind, caring and intended to let you know just how much she loved and admired you so.
My deepest family experience of LOVE to you all. And the Heavens are full of love for your dear MOM and also to you 2 also…Lady Lorna reminded me of the ‘Bob Hope’ style of laughter, dancing, have great get togethers’ and passing on, to others, HER JOY OF LIVING LIFE TO ITS FULLEST.. That is such a BLESSING to you all. A mentor to all who knew her..
Your MOM is held in the loving and most gracious hands of GODS LOVE & GRACE WITH PEACE forever now.
God Be With YOU the WHOLE FAMILY of happiness, laughter and terrific memories to always be in your heart.

  7. My deep sympathy in the loss of your Dear Mother Lorna and a dear sweet Aunt to me. I have many memories of Aunt Lorna and enjoyed my pop in visits to her home when I was in college. I usually had a bunch of friends, but everyone was always welcome and well fed and enjoyed the card games.

    Lovingly,

    Cindy

  8. Rosie, Chris & Mary-My deepest sympathies for the passing of your mom. I would bump into her working food demos at the grocery store, and she always had a smile and kind words for me. You are all in my thoughts and prayers, and Lorna will be missed.
