Lorraine K. (Torrey) Kiernan, age 92, of Fargo, passed away on Thursday, February 28, 2013 at Bethany Retirement Living in Fargo. She was born on December 31, 1920 in Jamestown, North Dakota, to Roy L. and Christine (Sonnek) Torrey. Lorraine graduated from Eldridge High School in 1938 and played on the Eldridge state champion girls’ basketball team. She attended Jamestown College and in 1943 enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, Women’s Reserve, and was honorably discharged in December 1945. After the war, she ran Lorraine’s Beauty Shop in Jamestown for many years. On November 27, 1948, she married Robert Eugene Kiernan in Jamestown. He passed away January 6, 1978. Among Lorraine’s interests were gardening, fishing, hunting, playing cards, and dancing when she was young. She was a member of St. James Parish, the Tabernacle Society, and the American Legion Auxiliary. Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Bob, three sisters: Pearl Lusk, Marjorie Lukanitsch, and Eleanor Torrey; and three brothers: Clifford, Robert, and Gene Torrey. Lorraine is survived by her son, Mike Kiernan and his wife Maureen of West Fargo; her granddaughters, Erin (Mike) Johnson, of Shakopee, Mn. and Kate (Mike) Bryant of West Fargo; her grandson Kelly (Katherine) Kiernan of West Fargo; eight great-grandchildren: Kiera & Aiden Johnson, Eva, Jack, & Owen Kiernan, and Cooper, Reilly, & Fletcher Bryant; her nephews, Clifford Torrey (Toni), & William (Liz) Torrey of Atascadero, Ca.; Robert (Shawn) Lusk of Portland, Or.; her nieces, Mary Kay (Woodrow) Flowers of New York City, NY; Barbara (John) Quiggle, The Galapagos Islands; Paula (Bob) Cyman of Jamul, Ca.; Michele (Chris) Hvink of Portland, Or.; Janet Hendrikson & Kathy (Arlan) Baumgartner of Eugene, Or.; Patricia Noble of Fresno, Ca.; Beverly Husbands of Bakersfield, Ca.; Priscilla (Jim) Lees of Long Beach, Ca.; & and several great nieces and nephews.
