Obituary

Lucy Wangler, 80, passed away on January 18, 2017 at Sanford Hospital in Fargo, ND surrounded by family.

Lucy Ann Wangler was born on December 26, 1936 to Peter and Elizabeth (Markel) Frohlich in Crown Butte, ND northwest of Mandan, ND.

The Frohlich family moved from their farm in Crown Butte to Bismarck where Lucy worked at Dan’s Super Value.

Lucy met Anton (Tony) at a dance at the Blue Room in Strasburg, ND. They were later married on May 3, 1958 at St. Anne’s Catholic Church, Bismarck. They moved to a farmstead northwest of Wishek, ND where they farmed until November 2013, when they moved to CHI Riverview Assisted Living in Fargo.

Lucy loved to cook and bake for her family and friends. Her specialties were fried chicken, homemade pizza, kuchen, popcorn balls, cherry rolls and many delicious homemade candies. She spent countless hours outdoors working in the yard, gardening and growing beautiful flowerbeds. Lucy and Tony enjoyed hosting many family reunions on the farm and most years would host a 4th of July party. Lucy would spare no expense on fireworks. She loved being around family and friends, especially her grandchildren and she created many wonderful memories for all those who knew her. She cherished her annual sister trips with Bernie and Elsie.

Lucy was active in her faith and taught CCD classes for many years. She attended daily Mass at Riverview Place. She was a 4-H leader and enjoyed playing cards.

Lucy’s spirit, wit, laugh and determination will be deeply missed by all. She is survived by her caring husband Tony, sons; Tim (Kim), Fargo, ND, Todd (Norma), Plattsmouth, NE and Patrick (Mary), Fargo, ND, four grandchildren; Jennifer (Brad) Sjomeling, Lisbon, ND, Lindsay (Matt) Renfrew, Prescott Valley, AZ, Morgan (Kyle) Sorby, Fargo, ND and Quinn Wangler, Fargo, ND and two great grandchildren; Owen and Jordyn Sjomeling, sister, Bernadine (Don) Prouty, Bismarck, ND, brother, Tom Frohlich, Mandan, ND and sister-in-law, Donna Frohlich, Bismarck, ND.

Lucy was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Vera Frohlich and Elsie (Ed) Friesz; two brothers, Joseph and Donald Frohlich and two sisters-in-law, Francis Frohlich (Joseph) and Jeanette Frohlich.

I was blessed to have Lucy as my sister/friend. No-one could ask for a better sister. She always looked out for me. Her generosity, kindness and love were what made her so special, but above all Lucy had Spirit! She loved to laugh and make others laugh. I have endless wonderful memories of my dear sister/friend. Love you and miss you already.

Lucy was not only my sister-in-law, but my friend. She joined our family when I was 10 years old, and I loved her immediately. She was always so full of energy and life and such a good organizer at family gatherings. We were very fortunate to have her as long as we did. She will be deeply missed by all.

The memories of Lucy are many and precious. Ann Wald and Lucy’s sister Bernie summed up our thoughts very well and we will miss her laugh and fun loving spirit. I need to mention what a talent she had for baking and cooking, totally amazing!! Our gatherings at her house were a treat!!! Rest in the comfort of our Lord, Lucy.

Tony, Tim, Todd, Pat, and families.

My thoughts and prayers are with you in this time of sorrow. I truly miss seeing Tony and Lou in the store and I also miss seeing them on the farm come hunting season. The place still looks good, just not the same.

Take care and may the Lord be with you in your time of sorrow.
