Lydian Nygard, 94, died Wednesday, February 4, 2004 in Bethany Homes, Fargo. Lydian Boyce was born September 16, 1909 in Absaraka, ND, the daughter of Herman and Lydian (Hagemeister) Boyce. She grew up in that area where she attended country school. She graduated from high school in Absaraka. Lydian graduated from Valley State Teachers College and she taught in rural schools for 9 years. She married Edwin Nygard on October 21, 1939 in Absaraka. After farming in the Kindred, ND area for a short time, the couple purchased a farm in the Leonard area where they farmed until 1979. In 1980, the couple moved to Casselton, and in 1994 they moved to West Fargo. Edwin died November 24, 2000. Lydian has been a longtime member of West Prairie Lutheran Church, rural Kindred, ND. She enjoyed tending her flower gardens and lawn, and she was an excellent cook and baker. She loved spending time with her family and her greatest joy was her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is survived by her daughter, Sonia Sandvig, West Fargo, ND and her son, James (DeEtte) Nygard, Denver, CO; two grandsons, Chris and Jay (Kim) Sandvig; two granddaughters, Michele (John) Jenkins and Janel (Jason) Gubeno; three great grandchildren, Gabriel and Hannah Sandvig and Hunter Gubeno; one sister, Marjorie Matejka, Barnesville, MN; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son-in-law, Rolly Sandvig, six sisters and one brother.
