Mae Foard

Mae Foard, 88, Fargo passed away Friday, December 7, 2012 at her home.
Mae was born November 14, 1924 to Magnus and Ettie (Nelson) Mortenson in Moscow Township, Cavalier County, N.D. Mae attended grade school in Huron and Moscow townships, high school in Loma, she then graduated from Langdon high school and from Mayville Teacher’s College. She taught for several years. In 1944, she married James “Jim” Foard in Moorhead, MN and they made their home in Weaver ND in Banner Township, The fall of 1944 brought them to Minneapolis MN where they worked in Defense plants jobs in support of the war effort. In the spring of 1945 they returned to Weaver and farmed on rented land they were later able to purchase. In 1947 they purchased a grocery store in Hampden ND which they sold in 1950 before returning to the farm home in rural Banner township, Cavalier County near Starkweather, ND making their home there for 22 years. Mae was active in the Cavalier County Farmers Union as a Youth Director arranging social and camping activities for rural youth of the area. She was also an active participant in PTA leading many fund raising activities while her children were in school. Mae was a founding member of the Faith Lutheran church in Hampden ND. Mae and Jim moved to Fargo in 1972 where Mae worked in the Fargo Public School system retiring after 20 years. Then she worked several more years at Big Top Bingo. Mae’s husband Jim passed away in 2001.
She is survived by her children Merlin (Laureen) Foard of Fargo ND, Corrine Cameron of Hilliard OH, Linda Wirth of Bonnie Lake WA , Janice Foard of Fargo ND, Lanetta Walters of Fargo ND, Cindy (Ed) Newbury of Galloway OH and James “Jay” Foard of Fargo ND, as well as 20 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Mae was preceded in death by her parents Magnus and Ettie Mortenson, husband, James “Jim” Foard, sister, Esther Kjos, brother, Herbert Mortenson, two son-in-laws, Fred Cameron and Dennis Walters and grandson, Jason Foard.
Mae’s family and friends, wish to thank everyone for their condolences and many acts of kindness.
A special thanks to Lanetta and her children for the help they provided Mae so she could remain in her home the last few years of her life.

Shoreview Mn.Sorry to hear of the passing of your Mom. She was a great lady. I loved her cooking when ever we visited and when I worked the few times for your Dad.May God give you comfort in these difficult times.
On behalf of the Martinson family, I send you our love, sympathy and prayers at this time of losing your mother, Mae, Memories are flooding back to me of the years we spent as neighbors one eigth mile apart. We must have nearly worn that stretch of road out by our many daily trips back and forth. In spite of all the commotion we must have all created I never remember your mom scolding us or telling us to walk home, ha! She had a lot of patience. I remember anti-I-over, swimming in your pool (cattle tank), good food, card playing and lots of playing house upstairs..For some reason your mom made Claire and I skirts one time. We loved them. They were an orange, red pattern. How sweet that was. I know you will miss your mother very much. No one could have prepared me for how much I miss dad. It’s been nearly a year and the wounds are still fresh. Love, Barb

I have such warm memories of Mae at Agassiz being my study hall teacher. May she rest in peace!!! Gone BUT NOT forgotten!! :))
