Margaret Alice Lewis, 85, of Fargo, ND, died peacefully at Villa Maria on Sunday, November 21, 2004. Margaret was born in Fargo on June 22, 1919. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Robert Carpenter Lewis Sr. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, early Fargo pioneer settlers whose homes are Fargo landmarks: Solberg Law Firm, home of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Quirk, and Chez Suzanne Bed & Breakfast, home of the late Mr. and Mrs. Robert Steele Lewis. Mr. Lewis was a former Lieutenant Governor of North Dakota. Also preceding her in death were her brother, Robert C. Lewis Jr. of Fargo, and sister, Mary Jane Lewis Schroeder of Detroit Lakes, MN. Miss Lewis graduated from Graycourt School in Stamford, CT, in 1941 where she received an outstanding recognition, that of being voted the most representative girl. She was a member of the D.A.R. She is survived by three nieces, Mrs. G. Charles (Barbara Lewis) Champlin of Hines, MN, Mrs. Bruce (Carol Lewis) Foster of Savannah, GA, and Mrs. Paul (Jacqueline Lewis) Soderberg of Savannah, GA; and seven great nieces and nephews. A funeral mass will be held at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church on Monday, December 6, 2004, at 10 a.m., with Father Bill Gerlach of Church of the Nativity presiding. There will be a private interment in the mausoleum at Fargo Riverside Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to the Villa Maria Auxiliary.
