Margaret Ann O’Connor McLean was born on August 4, 1924 in St. Thomas, ND to parents Archie Brennan O’Connor and Margaret Mary O’Sullivan O’Connor. She attended St. John’s Hospital School of Nursing in Fargo, ND to become an R.N. and later attended the School of Nursing at Boston University in Boston, Massachusetts.
She was married to Robert William McLean of McAffee, Kentucky on September 14, 1948 in St. Thomas, ND.
Ann was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church and of their choir in New Port Richey, FL, St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Little Falls, MN, and the Confraternity of Christian Mothers. She was choir director and served on the Parish Council at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Hillsboro, ND. She was a member and was past president of the Women’s Auxiliary of the North Dakota Medical Association and was a member of the Traill Steele Medical Auxiliary Council and was president from 1967-68. Ann was a member and served as president of the 20th District Republican Women from 1977-79. She was a member of the NEW Homemakers, the New York Society of Kentucky Women, the Traill County Homemakers and served as president in 1968, and served on the Hillsboro School board from 1970-73. She served on the KFJM Public Radio Advisory Board, was a member of the Disciplinary Board of the North Dakota Supreme Court from 1982-86, and was a volunteer at Seven Springs Elementary School in New Port Richey.
She is survived by her sons: Bill (Judy) McLean, Sioux Falls, SD and their children Cory McLean and Katie McLean (Trevor) Slette and great grandson Connor William McLean Slette, Bob (Terri) McLean, Nisswa, MN and their children, Dan, Mike, Rick and James, Pat (LuAnn) McLean, Grand Forks, ND, Andy (Cindy) McLean, Fargo, ND and their children, Ben, Rachael and Jacob; her daughters: Molly (Tom) Cotton, Little Falls, MN and their children, Maggie, Joe and Hannah, and Zeena (Bill) Christopher, Green Mountain Falls, CO and their children Seth, Isaac, and Morgan. She is also survived by her brothers, Gerald (Ellen) O’Connor, Grand Forks, ND and Daniel (Pat) O’Connor, Algonquin, IL; her sisters, Joan (Marv) Bronken, Oklee, MN, Jane Bresnahan, San Diego, CA and Patricia (Patrick) Fisher, Grand Forks, ND..
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert and brothers, James, Dick, Tom, Bud, Ted, and Jack.
Serving as pallbearers are her grandsons, Cory McLean, Joe Cotton, Seth Christopher, Ben McLean, Mike McLean, and Dan Domenzain.
Memorials are preferred to Hillsboro Health and Humanities Foundation.
There will be visitation on Thursday, January 30, 2003 in St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Hillsboro, ND from 5-7 p.m. followed by a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue on Friday one hour prior to the funeral service. The funeral service is Friday, January 31, 2003 in St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church at 11 a.m. Burial will be in St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Hillsboro, ND.
