Marguerite "Marge" Hewitt
Marguerite “Marge” Mary Hewitt, 97, Fargo, ND passed away on Monday, July 20, 2020 at Bethany on 42nd. Marge was born on January 12, 1923 to Arthur and Helen “Nellie” (Ryan) Silseth in St. Paul, MN. She grew up on a farm near Rutland, ND and graduated from Havana High School in 1941. After graduating, she worked one year for Havana High School before going to Seattle, WA. She was proud of her time as “Rosie the Riveter” from 1942-1946 where she worked at Boeing Aircraft and Linde Air Products. Marge returned to Rutland in December 1946.
On October 11, 1947 Marge and Cod Hewitt were married at St. Mary’s Church in Havana, ND. In October 1948 Marge started working for NW Bell Telephone Co. In September 1959, the big events of Marge and Cod’s life- they adopted their daughter, Janice and in January 1961, their son, James. Marge was a stay-at-home mom until February 1968 when she returned to work for NW Bell Telephone, retiring in 1984.
Marge was a charter member of Nativity Catholic Church. She was active in the Guild and Circle. She was very active in the Telephone Pioneers, Dakota Telco Federal Credit Union, CWA Local 7303, and also a member of the VFW Auxiliary. She loved playing bridge and loved to play cards with her grandchildren.
Cod and Marge spent winters in Mesa, AZ and summers at Pelican Lake.
Marge is survived by her daughter, Janice (Don) Brandner, Fargo; son, James (Jean) Hewitt, Eagan, MN; grandchildren, Ryan Brandner, Moorhead and Katie Brandner, Christine; and Austin (Sarah) Hewitt, Moorhead; and Evan Hewitt, Eagan; and great-grandchild, Arlo Hewitt.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Coddington; sister, Helen Sapa; and brother, Arthur “Rusty” Silseth.
There will be a visitation from 5-7:00 PM with a prayer service following at 7:00 PM on Wednesday, July 22, 2020 at Boulger Funeral Home and Celebration of Life Center, Fargo. The funeral Mass will be at 11:00 AM on Thursday, July 23, 2020 at Nativity Catholic Church, Fargo with a visitation one hour prior. Burial at Holy Cross South Cemetery, Fargo.

I have nothing but fond memories of aunt Marge and uncle Cod. She was such a wonderful, classy lady. What a marvelous sense of humor. And oh how she loved her children! She and Cod were just a treat to be around. I’m100 percent certain they are in heaven having a hot totee together and just smiling! May God bless them both..
Sorry for your loss, I remember Marge from working with her at MA bell, to seeing her and Cod in church at Nativity. Also to seeing her at the VFW in Pelican Rapids on Fri nights with you Jan during the summer. She was a very special women. May she rest in peace. Dan and Peggy Welle

I grew up with Jim spending many days, evenings, and weekends at the Hewitt home as well as a lucky, frequent guest to their lake home on Pelican Lake. Marge was always so very kind to me as I felt like one of her own. My only memory of frustration was when she and Cod would make us jump in the lake and wash our hair before attending church mass Sunday mornings while at the lake. Great memories of her and them are very dear to my heart. I will surely miss her.

Jim, I am very sorry for the loss of your Mother. I know that she meant a lot to you. Mothers are a very precious gift they give us life and then teach us how to live it. I would say you are evidence she was a good teacher.

I have fond memories of visiting with Marge ( and occasionally Cod, but not as often) at Edgewood Vista, as my Mother lived there during the same time period. She was so sweet and kind, but extremely funny too – she always knew just the right thing to say! My sincere condolences to her family
Jan and family. When I saw Marge’s obituary in the paper I was reminded of all the card games she and Cod played with mom and dad, Bev and foxy. Those were really fun times for our parents all the Northwestern Bell stories, Pioneers and all the years they worked hard. You were lucky to have had all these extra years with your mom. A life well lived. We can’t ask for much more than that. My sympathy to you Bobby
