Maria S. Smith, 88, Fargo, passed away Friday, January 3, 2003 at Villa Maria Nursing Home in Fargo.
Maria Socorro Rivera Smith was born December 19, 1914 in Patillas, Puerto Rico. Maria met and married Donald W. Smith, who was stationed in Puerto Rico during WWII. In 1945, they moved to Sioux Falls, SD, and made their lives together there.
The couple and their two sons moved to Moorhead in 1963, where Maria was a homemaker. They later moved to Fargo, where Maria sang in the choir and was an active member of Church of the Holy Spirit. She suffered a stroke in 1996, and was able to live at home for a number of years but eventually needed nursing home care.
Maria is survived by her husband, Donald W. Smith, Fargo, and their two sons, Don Smith Jr. (Jackie), Fargo, ND, and John Smith, Apple Valley, MN.
A funeral mass will be held at 1:00 p.m.,Wednesday, January 8, 2003 at Church of the Holy Spirit in Fargo. Visitation will be held 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, January 7, 2003 at Boulger Funeral Home, Fargo, and will continue one hour before the service at the church. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Fargo.
