Marlys Anderson, 90, Fargo, passed away Monday, January 13, 2014 at Edgewood Vista.

Marlys Ardell Braaten was born to Gina (Wold) and Andrew Braaten on January 6, 1924.  She attended Homestead Township #1 school for eight years and then attended school in Wyndmere, ND.  She graduated at the top of her class in 1942.  Marlys graduated from Concordia College in Moorhead with a B.A. in Business Education, English and Economics in 1946.  The day after she graduated she started teaching Business Education in Princeton High School, Minnesota.  The first day of teaching she met Edward Anderson from Minneapolis, her future husband, who was also on the staff at Princeton.

Marlys and Edward were married June 27, 1948 in Wyndmere, ND.  After their marriage they moved to Perham, MN where Edward was a Senior High School Principal and Marlys taught in the Business Dept of the high school.  Their son Edward Andrew was born while they were in Perham.  Edward was appointed Superintendent of Schools at Evansville, MN so they moved there for three years.  It was during this time that their second son, Richard Charles, was born.  From 1953-1956 they made their home in Annandale, MN, where their two daughters, Holly Kay and Heather June were born.

In 1965 the family moved to Detroit Lakes until retiring in 1973.  After retiring they spent summers at their cabin on Lake Lizzie and winters in Rancho Mirage, CA.  Edward passed away in 1991.  In 2007 she moved to Fargo and lived at Riverview Place until making her final home at Edgewood Vista.

To Mary’s family. We are summer residents of Lake Lizzie where we got to know Mary. She was a delightful lady, we appreciated her smile and her wit. We have thought of her often. To her granddaughter Heather and her family, we hope you continue to enjoy the cottage on Lizzie.
Our deepest sympathies to you and all of your family on the loss of your mother and grandmother Mary.
