Marlys Hudson

marlys hudson
Marlys E. Hudson, 78, Fargo, ND, formerly Colfax, ND passed away Friday, August 26, 2016 at her home under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. She was born October 20, 1937 in Dresden, ND to Fred and Anna (Domres) Sperling. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Dresden, ND. She graduated from Langdon High School in 1955. She moved to Minneapolis, MN and went to Airline College to become a ticket agent. After finishing her courses, she moved to California to experience California life, before moving to Fargo where she worked downtown at Fargo Insurance. On March 13, 1966, she married Raymond Hudson at First Lutheran Church in Fargo, ND. They made their home on a farm southwest of Colfax, ND where they had three children, Melissa, David and Heidi. She was an active, wonderful stay at home mom and farmer’s wife. Her children were blessed with her care and guidance. She made each day special for her family. She was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Colfax, where she taught Sunday School and was a member of the WELCA. Marlys enjoyed tending to her flowers, setting puzzles, mowing her lawn and spending time at Star Lake with her family. In 1997, her world changed when she welcomed her first grandson. With every grandchild her life got bigger and brighter, they were everything to her. She loved spending time with each and every one of her nine grandchildren, spoiling them as a grandma does. Family was the most important thing to her; she was always there for them with a helping hand, encouraging words, and undying love. They will miss her beautiful smile, her sense of humor and the way she made each day special. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Raymond, Fargo; children, Melissa (Michael) Smilonich, Columbus, OH; David Hudson, Meridian, ID; Heidi (Tanner) Foley, Colfax, ND; grandchildren, Marianna and Marshall Smilonich; Mariah and Caeleb Hudson; Jayden, Jazzlin, Jett, Jaci, and Jozie Foley; sisters, Eileen Wild, Fargo, ND; Clarice Davis, Spokane, WA; brother, Ludwig (Louie) Sperling, Spokane, WA; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Wilbur (Willie) Sperling; sisters, Betty Ellefson, Jeanette Fornes and Marie Leiseth. Celebration of Life: 11:00 A.M. Monday, September 12, 2016 at Boulger Funeral Home & Celebration of Life Center, Fargo, with visitation starting at 10:00 A.M. Her family would like to thank the Hospice of the Red River Valley for the excellent care she was given in her last few months.
