Joan Bogan, age 78 of Fargo, died Sunday, August 12, 2007 at Bethany Homes, Fargo from complications of Parkinson?s Disease. Mary Joan Murphy was born on August 17, 1928 to Mary (McGillic) and Jerome Murphy in Bismarck, ND. Joan was raised and educated in St. Paul, MN, Mandan and Fargo. She graduated from Sacred Heart Academy (Shanley) in 1946 and from North Dakota State University in 1950. Joan married Thomas Bogan on September 6, 1949 in Fargo. She stayed at home to raise their six children. In 1966 Joan returned to school to receive her Elementary Education degree from Minnesota State University ? Moorhead. She taught in the Fargo Public Schools for 23 years, retiring in 1990. Joan was a charter member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Fargo and was active there for over fifty years. She was a member of the Fine Arts Club and the Fargo Retired Teachers. She enjoyed traveling, playing bridge and spending time with her family. Joan is survived by her husband, Thomas Bogan of Fargo; 5 children, Michael (LaVerne) of Denver, CO, James (Ronda) of Houghton, MI, Colleen Kaeding of Fargo, Dan (Michele) of Atlanta, GA, Patrick of Eden Prairie, MN; 12 grandchildren, Christopher (Ellen) Bogan of Fort Collins, CO, Brian Bogan of Fort Collins, CO, Brittany Bogan of Washington D.C., Brianna Bogan of Houghton, MI, Maggie Carden of Madison, WI, Stephen Carden of Buffalo, NY, Amanda Kaeding of Minneapolis, MN, Ryan Kaeding of Minneapolis, MN, Nathan Kaeding of Marshall, MN, Jennifer (Travis) Hacker of Atlanta, GA, Jeff Bogan of Cambridge, MA, David Bogan of Atlanta, GA; 1 great-grandson, Brock Hacker of Atlanta, GA; 1 sister, Peggy (Larry) Sweeney of Fargo and 2 sisters-in-law, Barbara Murphy of New Lisbon, WI and Dorothy Kippels of Fergus Falls, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jerome and Mary Murphy; her brother, Dr. James Murphy and her daughter, Mary Carden. Memorials are preferred to donor?s choice. The family wishes to express a special thank you to the staff of Bethany Homes and Hospice of the Red River Valley for their loving care of Joan. Visitation: Wednesday, August 15 from 5-8 pm at Boulger Funeral Home, Fargo and one hour prior to Mass in the church on Thursday. Prayer Service: Wednesday at 7:30 pm at the funeral home. Funeral Mass: Thursday, August 16 at 10:00 am at Church of the Holy Spirit, Fargo. Interment: Holy Cross North Cemetery, Fargo. Arrangements entrusted to Boulger Funeral Home, Fargo.
