Mary Lou Grosso

Mary Lou Grosso, age 80 of Fargo, died Wednesday, February 7, 2007 at Elim Care Center, Fargo. Mary Louise Hill was born to Donald and Alice (Gibbs) Hill on July 27, 1926 in La Crosse, WI. She graduated from Clinton Community High School in Clinton, IL in 1944. She worked for one year at the Illinois Central Telephone Company before attending St. Joseph?s School of Nursing to obtain her credentials to become a Registered Nurse. She graduated in August, took the State Board exams in September and was married in October. She and Bernard ?Barney? Grosso were united in marriage at Holy Trinity Parish in Bloomington, IL on October 9, 1948. She took her first position as a surgical nurse at St. Joseph?s Hospital. Not wanting to be on call, she very shortly became an OB nurse at the same hospital. She worked there for approximately 3 years before taking a position as an Industrial Nurse for the Eureka Williams Company. She worked there for 13 years and took time to be at home after the birth of their second child. Mary Lou eventually returned to work at Heritage Manor, a skilled nursing home facility where she was able to work part-time. She remained in this position for 15 years and resigned when Barney?s job as an International Union Representative for the Machinists brought them to Fargo, ND. Due to illness, Mary Lou was not employed outside the home for a time. However, she eventually took a nursing position in the Rehabilitation Unit of Dakota Hospital, working there from 1980-1986. When she retired she and Barney divided their time between at Two Inlets Lake, Park Rapids, MN and Melbourne, FL. Barney died in 2002. Mary Lou moved back to Fargo living at Greenwood, Pioneer House, and eventually Elim Care Center. She was a volunteer with the Red Cross Blood Services, a Girl Scout Leader, and an active PTA member serving a term as President. Mary Lou enjoyed golfing and bowling very much. She became the President of the Illinois Women?s Bowling Association during the height of her amateur bowling career. She was an avid reader, especially mystery novels. Survivors include her son, Robert Michael Grosso (Jean) Waukegan, IL; daughter, Catherine ?Cathy? Ann Huseby (Jeff) Fargo, ND; three grandchildren: Natalie Lutfiyya (Rob) O?Fallon, Missouri, Bernard Grosso, Groton, CT, Ashley Huseby, (Fargo, ND?); two great grandchildren: Isabella and Sebrene Lutfiyya; her siblings: Clara ?Tondy? Dunn, Carlinville, IL, James ?Jim? Hill (Donna) Necedah, WI; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Donald Hill; and an infant son. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Elim Care Center. Memorial Service: Saturday, February 10 at 1:00 pm at Elim Care Center Chapel, Fargo.
