Mary Rech, age 92, Fargo, formerly of Dickinson, ND, died Sunday, April 10, 2005, in Rosewood on Broadway, Fargo, surrounded by her family. Mary Goetz was born August 25, 1912, at home on the farm south of Richardton, ND, to Henry and Anna (Bartel) Goetz, the oldest of 10 children. She attended a rural school. On July 11, 1932, she married Jacob Rech at St. Stevens Church in rural Richardton. They bought land and farmed and ranched, supplementing their income with milking cows, trapping in the winter, fishing in the summer. It was a robust life with working hard throughout the week, including weekends, but they made time to socialize with family and friends. They especially enjoyed Saturday nights in the summer at Mother Goetz? barn dances. Mary and Jack moved off the farm in 1952, and traded the pitchfork for a barber?s razor and electric clipper. They lived in Fargo, Wahpeton, Napoleon, and New Leipzig, all North Dakota. In 1956, they moved to Dickinson, ND, where Jacob bought a barber shop and Mary had the best garden in Dickinson. Mary loved gardening, canning, raising flowers, playing cards, fishing, and providing a place to stay for visiting relatives. She would start baking days ahead of expected company. They moved to Fargo in 1996. They lived at Trollwood Village in Fargo prior to entering the nursing home. Mr. Rech passed away in 2001. Mary is survived by her daughter, Rosemary (Stanley) Baer of Fargo; sisters, Elsie Rech of Dickinson, Anna Portscheller of Sacramento, CA; four grandchildren, Jeff Baer, Renee Baer, Brad Baer, all of Fargo, and Audrey (Brad) Hawkins of Moorhead; and great grandchildren, Jacob, Jared, Chris and Josh Baer, all of Fargo, and Alex and Garrett Hawkins of Moorhead.
