Mary Tscharner

Mary Tscharner died Sunday, May 10, 2020 peacefully in her sleep at Edgewood Vista/Memory Care, Fargo, ND. She was 101 years old. Mary was born on June 10, 1918 in Jamestown, North Dakota the daughter of Martin and Ann Graven. She spent her childhood years in Jamestown and Spiritwood, North Dakota where her family farmed. It was a meaningful and fun life surrounded by her one sister and four brothers. After High School graduation Mary attended Jamestown Business College. Mary spent her young adult years working as office manager at Coca-Cola Bottling Company in Jamestown. In 1950 she married Horace Tscharner and they began their life together in Rapid City, South Dakota where Mary worked for Knecht Lumber. In 1970 retirement years began and they moved to Mesa, Arizona where they started a new adventure! In 1990 they chose to move to Fargo to be closer to family. They made their new home at Riverview Place and were surrounded by the attention and care of three wonderful Irish ladies. . . Sister Agatha, Sister Josephine and Sister Mary. The care of the sisters and their staff was a perfect match for them. After Horace’s death in 1999 Mary and her sister Eileen began a new chapter in their lives. For the next 16 years they were apartment neighbors, roommates and best friends. Many a glass of wine was shared, stories were told and relived and often the stories were told again! Eventually they both moved to Edgewood Vista, Fargo where they watched out for one another, made new friends and were surrounded by staff that became an important part of their lives. Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Horace Tscharner. Also preceding her in death was her sister/best friend/and roommate, Eileen Sologuk and her brothers Gerald, Tom, Ed, and Father John Graven. Mary’s family will always remember the love and understanding shown to her by the Presentation Sisters and the staff at Riverview along with Nurse Leona and her caring staff at Edgewood Vista. We are grateful! Due to the Covid Virus the family will hold a small private service.
