Maurice R. Schmit, age 79, Fargo, died Wednesday, June 30, 2004, in Riverview Place, Fargo, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. Maurice Robert Schmit was born September 17, 1924, in Lisbon, ND, the son of Mathias and Veronica (Wiederholt) Schmit. He grew up in Lisbon and graduated from Lisbon High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp during World War II and was stationed in Kodiak, Alaska. Following the war he moved to Fargo, where he graduated from Dakota Business College. He began working for O?Day Equipment Company as an accountant. He worked there for 17 years. He was united in marriage to Mary Lazorenko on April 14, 1947, in Lisbon. He served as office manager at Farm Implement Wholesalers in Fargo and Alloway Manufacturing. He then began work at Northern Data Communications, where he retired from in 1990 as a partner. Mrs. Schmit passed away November 7, 1995. He moved to Riverview Place in May 2004. Maurice enjoyed traveling, playing cards, and spending time with his grandchildren. He is survived by three children, Craig of Grand Forks, ND, Douglas (Darla) of Plymouth, MN, and Vicki Schmit of Crystal, MN; eight grandchildren; three brothers, Francis (Gladys) of Rugby, ND, Richard (Maxine) of Bismarck, ND, and Louis (Phyllis) of Coeur D Alene, ID; four sisters, Mary (Leo) Lemna of Enderlin, ND, Bernadette Kreyer of Tempe, AZ, Dolores (Larry) Timmer of Tempe, AZ, and Margaret (Bud) Hitchcock of Mesa, AZ; and two sisters-in-law, Jean Schmit of Kandiyohi, MN, and Louella Schmit of Bowman, ND. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary; daughter, Pam Thompson; and two brothers, Joe and Raymond. The funeral will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. in Church of the Holy Spirit, Fargo. Visitation will be Monday from 5-7 p.m. in Boulger Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will also be held in the church on Tuesday one hour prior to services.
