Mavis J. Stewart Mavis J. Stewart, 80, Fargo, ND, died in her home Sunday, November 12, 2006. Mavis Jean Stewart was born September 15, 1926 in Milbank, SD to Peter and Doris Skavis. She was raised in Fargo, attending Fargo Public Schools and Fargo Central High School. In 1944, as part of the war effort Mavis worked in Washington, D.C. as a typist and clerk, where she met and married Charles Landry in 1945. They were divorced in 1952. Mavis married William (Bill) Stewart, the love of her life and best friend, on October 8, 1955. Mavis was a wife and mother first and always. She operated The Bridal Shop with her sister, Elaine Tennefos, until retiring in 1984 so that she and Bill could spend his retirement time together. She settled into a life in Fargo filled with everything she loved most: family, wonderful friends, and cooking for all. She was a member of Hope Lutheran Church South Campus. Mavis is survived by two daughters: Connie (John) Kelly, Perham, MN and Judy (Gary) Benson, Fargo, ND; four sons: James (Judy) Stewart, Duluth, MN, Bill Jr. (JoAnne) Stewart, Minnetonka, MN, David (Jeanne) Stewart, Vancouver, WA, and John (Susan) Landry, Overland Park, KS; 11 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren. Mavis is preceded in death by her husband Bill; two sons, Paul Stewart and James Landry; her parents; and two sisters, Elaine Tennefos and Beverly Huff.
