Melissa Lynn Schauer Whetzel, age 38, of Fargo, ND passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, February 18, 2020 in her home. Melissa Lynn Schauer was born July 17, 1981 in Marshall, MN to Thomas and Sandra (Siedschlag) Schauer. She was the youngest of three children and grew up and attended Fargo South High School in Fargo. She was baptized at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Marshall, MN. She was confirmed at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Fargo, ND. She was united in marriage to Michael Whetzel. Melissa went on after high school to pursue an LPN degree in Nursing. After graduating, she landed her first job at the VA Hospital in Fargo, where she had a 10-year career in nursing holding various positions. She was very passionate about helping others. While she was working at the VA Hospital, she also was furthering her education. She went on to earn an RN and BSN degree in Nursing. Melissa enjoyed spending time with her kids, family and friends. She enjoyed being at the lakes, going out on the pontoon and riding ATVs. Anything to see a smile on her kids’ faces. She also enjoyed listening to standup comedians, going to shows, shooting at the range and traveling. Melissa is survived by her husband, Michael, her children, Landyn and Ryland Schauer; her stepchildren, Dana and Dakota Whetzel; her parents, Thomas and Sandra Schauer; her grandmother, Ione Siedschlag, West Fargo, ND; her 2 brothers, Jon Schauer, West Fargo, ND and Jeremy (Jessica) Schauer, Benson, MN; and 4 nieces and nephews, Hailee, Dylan, Logan and Addison; and many other extended family members. Melissa was preceded in death by her grandparents, Bert and Ada Schauer; and her grandfather, Leonard Siedschlag. Visitation will be from 5-8 PM on Monday, February 24, 2020 at Boulger Funeral Home and Celebration of Life Center, 123 10th St. S., Fargo, ND. Funeral Service will be Tuesday, February 25, 2020 at 1 PM at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 613 16th St. S., Fargo, ND with a visitation one hour prior. Burial will be in Fargo National Cemetery, 8709 40th Ave. N., Harwood, ND on Wednesday, February 26, 2020.
