Mildred Boatright

Mildred “Millie” Boatright, 89, died on January 14, 2018 at Moorhead Rehabilitation and Care Center, Moorhead, MN. Mildred was born October 31, 1928 the daughter of Ella (Bauer) and Peter Laub, at Flasher, ND. She lived in Carson, ND and Miles City, MT before moving to Bismarck, ND where she graduated from Bismarck High School. It was in Bismarck that she met her husband, Benny C. Boatright. They were married on August 29, 1947. She worked as a secretary for the Bureau of Reclamation until 1949 when the first of their three children was born. In 1953, Benny and Millie opened a jewelry store in Jamestown called Boatright Jewelers. Millie then attended the School of Floral Design in Denver, CO and in 1957 they opened a floral department in the jewelry store. In 1974 following the death of her husband the jewelry store closed and she went on to manage other jewelry stores and departments in Jamestown including Puffe’s Jewelry, JC Penny and Purdy Jewelers. Millie moved to Fargo in 2009 living at One Oak Place and Edgewood Vista. Due to health issues, she moved to Moorhead Rehabilitation and Care Center in 2016. Millie was an active and outgoing person who enjoyed playing Bridge, especially Duplicate Bridge, Whist and dice games, golf, bowling and designing flower arrangements. She was an active member of Zonta, Jamestown Country Club, the American Legion, VFW and Eagles Auxiliary, and a member of the Honored Ladies of the Shrine, El Zagal Shrine. At One Oak Place she collected pop tops from cans for the Shriners Hospital and was proud of the many, many gallons of pop tops she delivered. Millie is survived by two daughters, Lynn (Galen) Anderson and Valerie Boatright, both of Fargo, daughter-in-law, Cindy Boatright, Wahpeton, ND; five grandchildren: Jonathan (Erin) Massey, Littleton, CO, Shanna (Zach) Johns, Lacey, WA, Ben (Anita) Boatright, Doran, MN, Adam Boatright, Minneapolis, MN and Dustin Boatright, Fargo, ND; six great-grandchildren: Aiden and Jacob Massey, Jackson Johns, and Lexi, Bri and Elly Davis Boatright; and a brother, Lester (Sally) Laub, Bismarck, ND and sister, Etta (Kenneth) Feldner, Mandan, ND. She was preceded in death by her husband, Benny C. Boatright, her son Randall “Randy/Boat” Boatright; sisters, Gladys Rausch and Ardith “Ardy” Addington. Millie’s family wishes to thank the wonderful people at Hospice of the Red River Valley and the staff at Moorhead Rehabilitation and Care Center for the comfort and caring they gave Millie and our family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to Hospice of the Red River Valley or the Shriner’s Hospital for Children. Celebration of Millie’s Life: 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at Boulger Funeral Home & Celebration of Life Center, Fargo with visitation starting at 6:30 P.M. Burial: Rest Cemetery, Pingree, ND in the Spring.
