Obituary

Molly Jean Bernstein passed away Saturday, November 19, 2016 at her home in Fargo, ND. She was 27 years old.

Molly was born in Fargo on July 5, 1989. She was baptized and confirmed at Canaan Moravian Church in Davenport, ND. She attended school in Kindred, ND.

Molly had so many talents. She was a gifted writer, having some of her poems in national competitions. She always had a notebook and pen in hand, jotting down thoughts and feelings in ways most of us could only try to express. She proudly gave the eulogies for her Grandma Ruth’s and Grandpa Carl’s funerals.

Molly loved to model. She made many friends through her modeling and was truly a natural. She was in her element while posing or walking the runway. She was featured on the cover of two international magazines as well as various other local media outlets.

Molly’s greatest love was her family. She loved the holidays when everyone gathered together. She was the family historian, taking pictures at every family event. Her niece and nephew, Preston and Adi, made her so happy and she loved sharing time with them. She also enjoyed spending time with her cousin’s daughter, Tilda.

Animals were a big part of her life. Tarantulas, hedgehogs, rabbits, cats, dogs and horses — she loved them all.

Molly felt called to reach out to those who needed a helping hand or word of encouragement. She would look for the good in people and was generous and forgiving. She couldn’t stand to see people suffer.

Although outgoing and beautiful on the outside, Molly suffered from many years with mental illness. There were times when doctors told her she was “too complex” and they could not treat her. Outward appearances can hide the demons lurking within. As hard as she tried to fit into normal society, bi-polar would not let her go.

We pray that the peace that passes all understanding will finally give her the rest she truly needed.

Molly is survived by her parents, Val and Del Bernstein: her brother Wade (Dawn) and their children Preston and Adi of Billings: her grandmother, Marlys Grindberg of Davenport, ND: and her dearly loved aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her paternal Grandpa and Grandma, Ray and Ruth Bernstein and by her maternal Grandpa, Carl Grindberg.

A celebration of Molly’s life will be held at the Sanctuary Events Center (670 4th Ave N, Fargo ND 58102) on Monday, November 28. A gathering of friends and family will be held from 5-7 PM, followed by a celebration of life service starting at 7:00 PM. People are encouraged to wear casual bright clothing and come ready to share memories.

  22. DANETTE RICHE-GOREE says:

My heart goes out to the family of Molly, and to those friends and family who have all experienced such a tremendous loss at her passing. Although I never had the pleasure of meeting this great person, it is apparent in everything that I have read and seen what an impact she had on those that she touched. I had the opportunity to speak to Molly’s mother, Val, the other evening and it is also apparent to me where Molly learned and received her compassionate nature from, as Val was just as sweet and empathetic as she could possibly be in the situation as it is. This family needs to be commended for what they are doing for another human being during this time, especially as they are experiencing grief for their own child, ensuring that Patrick Hensley is also shown respect and dignity in his death. Thank you for the lovely people you are. My heart truly hurts for you and your family, and I hope that you are able to find some comfort in knowing that Molly is now free from pain, she is at peace, and she is wrapped in the warm arms of our Lord.

  23. Julie and John Opgrand says:

Val and Del, there are no words to express how terribly sorry we are over your losing your Molly. My heart broke when I heard the news. I remember when she was born, What joy she brought. The Christmas John was Santa and the videos we took. I was blessed and honored to have been asked to be her godmother. I feel bad that I haven’t been part of her life as she grew up. Many life changes and our paths went separate ways. Sad, but that is how life is sometimes. I had a chance to talk with Molly on fb one time when she was going through one of her difficult times. I talked about the Lord and about giving her life to Jesus. I encouraged her and prayed for her. I wish I could have known her. I followed her fb and enjoyed her free spirit and talents with her modeling. She touched so many lives the way it sounds and had a very caring heart and a deep love for her family.
I am hurting for all of you at this time and can only imagine the grief you all must be feeling. John and I are praying for strength, peace and comfort for you all.
God bless you and love you.

  24. John & Carol Wickenheiser says:

Del and Val, we are so sorry for what you are going through. Molly was one of a kind, a sweet baby girl. Every time I saw her it made me smile. Remembering the fun she had with Jasmine and Samantha – they were always up to some adventure. The world is certainly a much less colorful place without Molly. May she rest in peace, her chains are gone. Deepest sympathy ~ John & Carol Wickenheiser

  25. Jim Westphal says:

Dear Del , Val, & family

What an unbearably difficult time this must be for you. No parent ever expects to have to deal with this in their
lifetime. There seems to be so many unfair things in life that people have to go through, some more than others. We cannot begin to understand the pain and suffering you must feel. I do know that your faith is strong
and that you must lean on the Lord and let him share your burden. You are both wonderful loving people.
Life is so fragile. I pray that everyone this holiday season be thankful for the lives they have and the friends
and family that are part of it.

    God bless you
