Obituary

Nancy passed away on Friday, February 19, 2016 at the Hillsboro Medical Center Hospital, surrounded by her loving family, at the age of 78. She was diagnosed with cancer in December of 2015 and fought a short but courageous battle for the past two months.

Nancy was born on November 16, 1937 in Philadelphia, PA. She was the daughter of Palmer and Eva (Skinner) Roisum. Nancy grew up in Grandin, ND where she received her schooling, graduating from Grandin High School in 1957. She moved to Fargo where she worked for the Fargo Nursing Home, now known as Rosewood on Broadway. Nancy was united in marriage to Marvin Nelson on July 29, 1971 in Grandin. They made their home on a farm near Cummings, ND.  Nancy was well known in the area for working for area families and businesses doing cleaning and also working at the Hillsboro Nursing Home.

Nancy loved spending time with her family – especially her beloved grandsons. She spent countless hours helping care for them in their younger years. She was famous for her brownies and loved baking and sharing with her family and friends. Nancy also was an avid bingo player. In the later years she greatly enjoyed visiting with her “phone friends” late at night.

Nancy is survived by her daughter, Char (Carl) Anderson of Blanchard, ND; her son, Les (Denise) Nelson of Hillsboro, ND; grandsons, Dontray and Zach; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Marvin.

  2. Ms Allison says:

Sorry for your loss, the Bible shows the day will come when death will be brought to nothing. 1 Corinthians 15:26 assures us of this wonderful blessing.

Hope this thought brings comfort to the family.

I was so sorry to hear of Nancy’s death. I knew her for many years and always found her to be friendly and easy to visit with. She will be missed by many and she was too young to die.. I am glad, however, that she didn’t suffer any longer. I will make a donation to OSLC directly In memory of Nancy. My sympathies and prayers are with you all.

  4. George W. McCullough and Mary H. M. {McCullough} Cook - Cousins in New York says:

Many fond memories of our North Dakota family which span over 60 years. Nancy was a kind and caring lady. On behalf of the entire McCullough clan we send our deepest sympathy to our ND family and friends.

I remember Nancy growing up in Grandin. A favorite place to go was Roisum’s Grocery store. I didn’t see her on a frequent basis after she left Grandin but whenever I did she was always a pleasure to visit with. My love and sympathy to her family. May God’s loving arms embrace to today and in the difficult days to come. God Bless.
