Rockford ILHow sad and sorry I was to learn of Norman’s passing. Norm and Verna impacted my family over the years in many ways that I will always be grateful for. He led me to the Lord at the age of five where my family attended the church he and Verna pastored in Mott, ND. Norm preached a sermon to the children one Sunday morning called, “Charlie Church Mouse” and followed it with an altar call. I can still see the faces of my three siblings standing next to me at the altar, tears streaming down our faces while Norm lead us in a salvation prayer. He always offered a word of encouragement and kindness. My deepest condolences to sweet Verna and the girls.
Brandon SDVerna and Family
My thoughts and prayers are with you as you are preparing this morning to celebrate Norm’s life. I always enjoyed working with Norm when he taught in Regional Schools of Mission. His visits with Russ & I when we were in NYC were a delightful connection to the Dakotas. A fond memory is that he always had to make a trip (I think it was to Brooklyn) to get a “special cheesecake to take home to Verna”.
May God wrap you in tender arms of love during this time of transition. While the long goodbye is over, the good memories will always be there. May they comfort you.
Cherry Valley IllinoisOur deepest sorrow on the passing of your wonderful husband and father, Norman. We will remember him always. With Love and Prayers.

Huron SDI was honored to meet the man who voiced with Bishop Job the words and thoughts of those following God. Such depth and constant joy he has shown on his own journey with Christ. We will miss this big man of faith as the time was too short to learn from him. He has given much, may he receive much. “Well done, my good and faithful servant.” In Christ, Jan Price, Dakotas Conference
Bismarck NDVerna: The Simpson family (Bisbee, ND) has wonderful memories of Norm and his ministry… He impacted me more spiritually than any other in my lifetime! I remember going home and writing down one of his sermons as I remembered it, and I still remember that one! He was so amazing, as a minister and as a human being. I only wish I could have had more contact with him in recent years. My sisters Amy & Eileen, my brother Jim, and I all send our sympathy to your family in your loss, and celebrate the wonderful blessing that was the life of Norm Shawchuck! It was my intention to head to Elgin for the service, but I will be unable to attend. You will definitely be in our prayers!
Prescott AZOur memories of Norm go back to the days he served at Cleveland while we were in Jamestown. His work on A Guide to Prayer for Ministers and Other Servants has always been much appreciated. In fact, I made use of it today, 5/24/12 at a Communion service. May good memories prevail in a time of pain and sorrow! Dick & Pat Unkenholz
Rapid City SDI believe it was when I was being interviewed by Norm for ordination that he challenged me about my need to keep reading. I have never forgot that. I have always appreciated Norm’s encouragement throughout the years, especially when I was DS covering the Elgin area. He made a difference.
Elgin NDI will hold on to memories of Norm’s humor. While some were intimidated by his intellectual capacity, his impish smile and gentle teasing could quickly make one feel included in Norm’s love of life and his deep love of God. I will also remember the great ties he wore to church.
Bethesda United Methodist Church was blessed when Norm & Verna chose to spend retirement years on family property. We missed them both when the moved to Fargo, and we will miss Norm, yet hold fast to the promise of seeing him again.
Newberg ORWe are sorry to hear of Norm’s death. We followed his comings and goings for many years and appreciated his writings. Our prayers are with you.Xu
