Norris S. Smith, age 77, of Cummings, ND, passed away on Wednesday, March 23, 2005, at MeritCare Hospital in Fargo. Norris Sanford Smith was born on July 3, 1927, in Buxton, ND, the son of Christ and Gertie (Kvitne) Smith. He grew up and attended school in rural Buxton. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in December of 1953. He attended Hanson Mechanic School in Fargo, ND. He married Lois Enger on September 25, 1954, at Highland Lutheran Church in Cummings, ND. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on September 25, 2004. They made their home in rural Cummings where he farmed until his retirement in 1988. He worked at American Crystal Sugar Company. Norris was an active member of Highland Lutheran Church and served on the church council. He also was a member of the Hillsboro American Legion. Norris enjoyed spending time with his family and especially looked forward to camping trips in the summer. He will be remembered as a very kind, loving man. Norris is survived by his wife, Lois; his daughter, Kristi (Mark)Jensen of Reynolds, ND; two sons, Mark (Deb) Smith of Rochester, MN; and Craig (Ann) Smith of Hillsboro, ND; six grandchildren, Ryan Jensen, Shauna, Marie, and Amanda Smith; Adam and Austin Smith; and his brother, Lyle Smith of Hillsboro. He was preceded in death by his parents, Christ and Gertie; and his brother, Charles Smith.
