Ordean K. Berg, Fargo, ND, died at his home Sunday, January 23, 2005 of heart complications that developed in the fall of 2004 following the death of his daughter, Mary Jaylene, on October 1, 2004. Ordean was preceded in death by his loving wife, Ann, on December 25, 2000. Ordean was born in Sharon, ND on January 20, 1916 and was a graduate of North Dakota State University. Following graduation, he entered the US Navy and served as an instructor in aircraft instruments from 1942-1945. He had a long career with the USDA Soil Conservation Service, rising to the level of director of the southeastern North Dakota area until his retirement in 1982. He was an avid golfer and supporter of the NDSU Bison football program, frequently attending games. He married Anna Margaret Skramstad on August 7, 1940 in Thief River Falls, MN. Through their lives, Ordean and Ann followed their daughter, Mary=s academic and professional achievements as she received her doctorate in Pharmacology and became a professor of Pharmacy at the University of Iowa. She was inducted into the Iowa Woman=s Hall of Fame in 1999. Ordean is survived by one sister, Evangeline Hart, Minneapolis, MN; three nephews, John Berg, Minneapolis, MN, Curtis Berg and Vincent Berg, state of Washington. He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Tilla (Maystad) Berg, and four brothers. A memorial service and gathering of friends will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, January 29, 2005 in Boulger Funeral Home, Fargo. Memorials should be directed to the NDSU Development Foundation for the Ordean K. Berg Endowment Fund for the College of Pharmacy, and may be forwarded to Boulger Funeral Home, 123 South 10, Fargo, ND 58103.
